I’m pretty sure Waze never had their own maps, so that wouldn’t have helped Apple at all. And it would have only been a small aquihire since the Waze UI is too opinionated and non-Appley to be the default maps app anyway.

Cars do get weaker over time as the parts wear. And I would certainly expect the microcontroller to adjust to provide the best performance possible under the new limitations. I assume most well-made, modern cars already do that.

I had the exact same reaction reading this. I couldn't enjoy the story until I knew there wasn't an ongoing manhunt. And even then, I was sad that I had to worry so much about the overreaction so still couldn't enjoy it.

Wow, clicked on the Lisa McIntire Tweet linked in the article[0], and that thread is gross. Sure, the company sounds like a terrible idea, and making fun of the concept is fine, but half the replies there are assuming and ridiculing the fou

Google did make Android free to head off Microsoft, but it was already very clear Apple was the primary competition. They were trying to take Microsoft’s place in the new Duopoly.

Weird that this guy has lived in Japan for ten years, but he groups a bunch of culture aspects in with his evidence of poverty. Preparing a lunch box, recycling bath water for laundry, using kerosene heaters? These are just how things are d

I'm not familiar with Korea, but I don't think there's anything particularly weird about Japanese social media. The obsession with privacy is eroding over time, but still relatively strong. Mixi basically died and was replace

That's also how I explain it to people on both sides; Japanese society basically has the extremes pulled in on both sides, which results in a lot of benefits, but also some downsides. And it applies to a lot of aspects of society, like

Yes, actually Google does have programs to let people work their way up on the inside. Barista is a bit extreme and not really internal since they're vendors, but admins, help desk, etc. do have avenues to move into other roles.
