Where will poor people who are unqualified for mortgages live if there are no landlords? Some kind of government housing?

Interac e-Transfers took 10+ min and cost me $1.50 every time I've used them. They're absolute garbage compared to Venmo. I actually use Venmo in Canada with friends that have US bank accounts because it's still more convenie

My point is that your suggestion is unlikely to have helped prevent this specific incident or others like it. A guild or professional association keeps quacks and idiots out, it doesn't solve the problem of experienced competent people

I think you're vastly underestimating the number of deadly mistakes doctors and lawyers and other such licensed professionals make every day. Just look at Enron! Maybe such a system would keep out the very worst programmers but I doubt

Fiat isn't much different. Forex is 24h a day and jumps around on central banker quotes all the time.

If you buy stuff via bitpay with your hugely appreciated bitcoin you probably have a good shot of successfully evading the taxman. I bet that's what a lot of that traffic is. That and you can buy cash-like goods like gold bars which wo

The reputation system is not unidirectional today. I don't accept rides from any Uber passenger with less than 4.5.

I don't find this situation comparable to those programs. Boomers never paid any taxes on the extreme capital gains on their primary residences and I'm not holding my breath that prices will quintuple again in my lifetime. They go

It's a regressive tax that shifts the tax burden away from rich old retirees to poorer younger workers who had the misfortune of being born later.

Driving saves me 20min each way vs public transit, even in heavy traffic. And I get to sit! And the seats are comfortable and adjustable and have lumbar support. And I have music and climate control. And I don't have to stand or walk i

This anecdote makes me very happy with AWS. I want loss of 2FA to completely revoke access to my account. Otherwise any smart hacker can social engineer Amazon support with some fake drivers license photo and steal all my BTC (for example

More likely the German engineers cost half as much as the New York ones. No health insurance and much lower CoL and market rates.

This. If I'm a rich man and I ask a poor woman out, her answer actually might have a much bigger impact on her economic well-being than if I were an employer interviewing her for a job. Does that make it wrong for rich men to ask poor

It's better because we have the opportunity to move to the US and Americans don't have anywhere better to move. I'm only partially kidding; all the best people in my class making the most money moved to the US immediately upo

Consumers don't choose their health insurance companies in the US. Their employers choose them. And when the user != the purchaser, you don't get a good user experience, you get corruption and a race to the bottom.

It's cheaper to lose 100% of your purchase 2% of the time than 3% of your purchase 100% of the time. Insurance is for health and houses not my $8 lunch or $500 wallet contents.
