This is the real problem right here. I live in Canada and the government pays for healthcare but (or maybe 'therefore') the providers do all sorts of sleazy things to get more money like schedule separate billable in-person appoin

It's still cheaper to export those machines to Brazil or something and have someone poorer drive the tractors and combine harvesters around and maintain them. No winter either so the utilization would be higher.

I imagine if food production was not subsidized, much of it would naturally move to other countries with cheaper labour forces. The USA doesn't want to be dependent on other countries for basic goods like food; imagine if there was an

This comment doesn't make sense to me (as a part time Uber driver myself). First, the driver doesn't see your destination until he picks you up. Second, there is no competition or reason to rush to "mash" the button, the

SF has extremely harsh rent control laws. In SF you are seeing the result of rent control run amok (amongst other factors).

The same payroll taxes are paid whether you’re self employed or employed. Including Uber drivers. You just pay both sides of the CPP and EI if you’re filing as self employed.

Yes, so it is not the lack of money that makes one unhappy (say, at ~$24k/yr and no health problems), but comparison to others and attachment to worldly things. This is what causes people in the West who earn $35k and $350k alike to fe

I strongly agree with this. A lot of people are happy in college and they're almost all living on less than $24k a year despite working over 40h a week (although schoolwork is a lot more engaging than industry IMHO).
