You don't need to hit a bully to break his power. The trick is to emasculate them. Show them you don't care. When they insult you or hurt you, laugh at them. You just have to mean it. I was bullied for years until I realized one day why the

A 1000 times yes. But, with one proviso: It is ethical, right, and good to cut off all ties with people who actually do violate social rules and hurt others. It's better for everyone, including the person who did the deed, because they will

Yes, downvote me. That just shows that you prefer to be tricked by people who are putting on a show as being "one of you." Where, I ask you, is the science that proves that there is a correlation between speaking skills and valuelessness? O

Color me illiterate, but I couldn't find where on Reddit they talk about the same stuff? The startup subreddit looks dead and the programming reddit is quite different. I'd love a link or name!

I absolutely agree. To which I'd add: what you described as under-rated doesn't even have to be the limit for "outsiders" who don't aspire to the HN ideal. 37Signals is, by the definition of HNers, a lifestyle business… and they're absolute

The reason seems to be that HNers feel like they have to project an ultra-logical persona at all times. Even Spock-like. How'd it get started? I wish I knew. It's not just jokes. I've experimented: I can make the most insightful and practic

Great question. I've been outlining an essay on "The boring way to success." Ha! If I'd be more thrifty, I could stop working more than a few days a month. But I'm easily bored, I enjoy growing my business(es), and I really enjoy spending m

What you're talking about is the primacy of emotional alignment vs intellectual improvement. That is, identifying with the emotional content (like you said - "RIGHT ON!" or "NO WAY!") vs reading content that causes emotions. The former is,

You're wasting your time, energy, your life, and your money (or your parents money) by dicking around in college that you don't care for. You can't let your family run your life, or you'll always be miserable. Decide on your own if you will

We've been running on Slicehost for almost 2 years and I believe we've had two outages, one of which wasn't a real outage but a backbone provider went kaplooey in Europe. That can't really be helped. Heroku, on the other hand, feels like it

This is just pointless speculation by people who don't understand Apple's MO. Apple would no more buy Sony that it would buy Compaq.

You could go even further: Let's not forget that it's internally divided - so many horrible compromises were wrought by Sony because its IP division (movies, music) was pissed off by technical advances made by its tech division (hardware).

If you think that simple question was "vitriol," you're going to have a really rough time running a business. My advice to you is to learn when it's not about you (which is most of the time) so you don't feel everything so strongly.

That income is from about 20 days total of teaching. The main course we developed on 2009. There is some time to market and update, but you've got to admit, that's a ludicrously good ROI. That said, like Kyle said, and my article said, it's
