Working around other motivated, hard-working, intelligent, fun people is about a lot more than having warm bodies around so as not to be "bleak." The amount of serendipity & opportunity that comes out of coworking - when the coworking c

"They won't listen" - really? I've had lots of older mentors in my life, and they treated me like their equal. This is a distinct contrast to older people who just take the opportunity to lecture and judge. "You won't understand until you'r

The design of your chat stream looks like an almost direct rip off of Campfire. If you want people to believe you're doing something different, you have to make it so your product isn't confused with the competition with a glance.

I'm sure many people who are unemployed are unemployed through no fault of their own. But... ... the other day I checked out a site for finding tech/design-oriented interns. There were 50 listed in my city (Philadelphia)... and most of the

That doesn't invalidate my metaphor. If an advertiser is willing to pay you $x then you can be guaranteed they're earning $x * 2 -- or more. If you had the product instead, and were the advertiser, you could be the one making a lot more mon

Nope, you're mistaken. I've made tens of thousands on ads... and hundreds of thousands on products. Products that cost money. It's easier to control, more rewarding intellectually (because your interests & customer interess are in sync)

The metaphor I use with my startup students is this: PPC (even banner) advertising is like scrounging for scraps at the table of someone successful. AND, of course, if the ads work -- if the advertisers get their money worth -- then of cour

I'm an east coaster with lots of west coast friends, from whom I've picked up a lot of west coast slang and mannerisms (e.g. "the 95", "fuckin A"). But I've never heard grub as a verb.

There's a moral, but the author couldn't find it. The moral is not "don't distract programmers" but: Programmers need to grow up. If you program just to program, or "solve problems" as so many put it, then of course, you will be miserable w

So, what you're saying is, if our tool says your web app is "fat" and to "lose weight" -- so you plan to implement that suggestion by cutting off a leg? Measurements exist for a reason. You have to use your own judgment to interpret them.
