A lot of good things have been said in this thread. I don't climb, but I think that your selling point "use less chalk" is not particularly convincing. Maybe "your hands will thank you" would be more appealing. Peop

I had to invest 50 € to buy back my old phone number for a week to get to my old Google account. I had password, backup email address, could answer the questions. But the google bots insisted on sending me a SMS to a number that didn't

ISDN was used a lot in Germany and was disabled just a few years ago. I still remember the agony of getting my Linux PC to work with the Fritz!Card (on the ISA bus) to finally be able to be online for 3 cents a minute on the Internet. ISDN

So since only a few decades I can do this: 1. create a shared hosting account for almost nothing (or literally nothing: https://www.000webhost.com/free-php-hosting) 2. write index.php 3. upload index.php 4. ??

Exactly. I run a lot of services on a lot of servers for 10+ years now. Only the non-PHP projects (postal, zammad, otrs, elasticsearch, graylog from the top of my head) are hard to maintain and/or to install. And most of them need much

Do you have a source for this? I thought for the gdpr it was enough that data is not easily accessible. For example, it is not necessary to delete PII from backups unless they can be automatically restored (and are reasonably encrypted). Ha

This could be the final post to this discussion. You can't really get more to the point than that. We are running a large German browser game on individual VPS instances. For many years, with PHP, MySQL and Redis. It works and it runs

Yeah, you're right, it's different. One half does not use voice messages, the other half cannot live without this feature. My peer group is mostly from Germany.

That zfs needs so much RAM is a myth that can be easily refuted. Start a Linux VM with hardly any RAM and let zfs run on it. Works great. There are also sources for this since years: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoar

This looks like much too complicated CSS mixed with Javascript. Or in other words: why must a button be created in such a complex way, when CSS and HTML can do the same?
