I also agree that I prefer to work this way, but it's crazy to see how many developers have an "I just want to code, I don't want to think about business problems" mentality. In some ways I respect their devotion to pure

I haven't bought any in a while, but looks like the Pi Zero W is in stock and available for $10 at Microcenter. Other sellers seem to have them in stock for $15. So isn't there already a widely available Pi in stock for under $20?

You could set up a watchdog of some sort that reboots the system if it can't connect to the internet.

This is what I don’t understand about the claims that any next generation of mods would be incapable of doing the job. I think it will be exactly like the current status quo. You see subreddit and mod drama happening all the time. So many

It seems to me that computer systems have always been a secondary concern on ICE cars. It’s possible the ECUs in question have been so cost optimized there’s not a lot of power left to do asymmetric (or possibly even symmetric, idk) crypto.

I guess maybe one could make that argument, but the majority of AI alignment concerns seem more along the lines of skynet level scenarios. The paperclip optimizer could be called a "bug" I guess. But the comparison to Tesla autopi

I am familiar with this situation and agree it is a problem. But this is a deterministic, well known, algorithm rather than AI, isn't it? I would also say that this falls under bias rather than misalignment. I think bias is a much, muc

This actually brings to mind a conversation I've been having with my buddies recently. Has there ever been a case of harm from AI misalignment? Not some kind of speculative art exhibit, but real harm?

I don't think you'd have to pass the context into an await? Await is a Rust construct, not a tokio one. Unless I'm making a complete fool of myself... Maybe I'm just jaded from writing too much C, but it doesn't see

I dunno. Where does the burden of proof lie on this? Starbucks seems to be the one claiming they can’t give arbitrary raises to union workers. The union seems to be saying “you can!” It seems to me that Starbucks is pulling a “we’ve tried n

Part of me agrees with what you’re saying. I mean, tokio is right there in the namespace. But another part of me questions why it’s ok that calling a function in the wrong context is a runtime panic rather than a compilation error. Coming f

I’ve been working on a raspberry pi 0w based PID controller for my Gaggia. It’s working quite well. I think the SD card based installation flow could really help a lot of people who would otherwise need to flash an MCU. Currently it’s only

Ah, that makes sense. In fact, I was trying to unit test some time based code in tokio a month or two back, and it was really painful. I couldn’t figure out how to inject a fake clock into the runtime to test my timers.

Can you give an example of what you're talking about? I'm pretty new to async and Rust in general but I'm having a hard time thinking of an example (almost certainly a deficiency on my end haha).

There's a lot of stuff you can do to Linux on the Pi to make it have some of the nice qualities you're describing. I've set up my Buildroot project to copy "authorized_keys" and "wpa_supplicant.conf" from
