On a related note, I've been looking at GPU switching on Macbooks, mostly to get it working better on Linux. This work might also be useful to keep 2011 MBPs with a damaged dedicated GPU working with just the Intel card. If you have a

You can get kdb+ for free from here: http://kx.com/software-download.php However, they've been working on a new version of k that's not publicly available yet and I suppose the kparc stuff requires that.

I'm just in the middle of building a similar system. As another commenter mentioned, you can use a log / event sourcing for this. A log basically is a stream of changes to a DB. I found this the best introduction to it so far: ht

So it's a schema plus interned values? Do you think it might be better on real-world data to use just one mapping of value id to value instead of one per column/key?

That's really cool. From the way the cursor flashes in the video, it seems to refresh the screen pretty often? Does it do that constantly, 30/60 frames per second or only if something changes?

Check out OpenSMTPd, that makes setting up an email server so much easier. It's still far from what it could be, but pure bliss compared to Postfix.

OSv ( https://github.com/cloudius-systems/osv ) for example simply targets the virtualized hardware of popular hypervisors, which gets you pretty far.

Very interesting, how do you control the steering wheel? Most solutions I've seen for that were either really clunky (and unsafe, as they obstructed the airbag etc.) or used/replaced the power steering. I just assumed you would ha

These systems have been available for several years now, so I don't really see how many people would buy a retrofit option. People don't even upgrade their car stereo systems anymore.

You're completely right about shared_ptr not being the right tool for this use case. However, I haven't tried it but just looked up the implementation of std::shared_ptr in GCC 4.9.0, and accessing it is exactly the same as with a
