FreeBSD network stack has always remained rather stable. In terms of performance Linux caught up and even overtook at some point, but lately Netflix did a lot of performance improvements for FreeBSD. So, your information could be outdated.

Not only Nigeria. The downside is that such "elites" are creating VIP covid hospitals (or wards) for themselves thus robbing ordinary citizens of a chance to get proper treatment.

This is not correct. Russian did not achieve anything by ramming, they even damaged one of their ships instead. The Ukrainian ships effectively surrendered after overwhelming Russian forces opened live fire near and on them. The Wikipedia h

I think that the kind of brainwash that we typically think about evaporates very quickly at front lines. But the actual fighting -- trying not to get killed, seeing your comrades killed, killing in return -- is a 'brainwash' of i

Exactly. I would appreciate an explanation what makes zig c-like if its syntax is nothing like c? What does "c-like" even mean then?

I personally witnessed more than once (and intervened) drunk people appearing to try getting themselves killed by traffic, like erratically running onto a road. Once I also saw a too drunk person that tried to cross a street (outside of a c

I don't know... To me, zig does not look like C at all. IMO, go and zig are as similar to each other as they are dissimilar to C.

Regarding sched_yield, another common (and, IMO, superior) approach to that issue is to drop the first lock and then acquire the second lock after the try-lock on it failed. Then you drop the second lock and retry the whole sequence again.

I think that there is a general rule that the more optimal a system is the less robust it is. So, it seems that we have to choose a balance between the two. And the current market incentives are to choose the minimum costs.

I'd argue that the software provided via the ports is not part of the OS. But the FreeBSD ports themselves (and official packages built from them) can be considered part of FreeBSD. P.S. You can disagree with me and state your point,

There are many ways to install third-party software. Some are harder: download source and build from it yourself (while handling any cross-platform issues, etc). Some are easier: just install from an OS supplied package. The latter still wo

Yes, iTCO_wdt is for Intel chipsets; sp5100_tco is for AMD chipsets (including FCH). The names are a bit weird to my taste. FreeBSD ones sound a little bit better (but maybe I am just more used to them): ichwd (ICH WD) and amdsbwd (AMD Sout

It seems that you didn't reach the part of the spec that describes how to read and transmit data bits. Also, even for simplest slaves there is still a need to keep track of time which requires additional hardware (an oscillator or some

I wouldn't call it very tolerant. Some timings are pretty tight, like 1 to 15 microseconds, and every microsecond can count. And I am not talking about the overdrive mode where the timings are much tighter.
