I dunno seems like a tempest in a teapot. Not sure why Maxim would not want CVEs to be assigned to something. Maybe it was just the final straw after a series of bad interactions. Every project has a lifespan, sometimes trying to keep them

Mine is mapped to F14 in Windows, which is rebound to push-to-mute on Discord. Great for gaming. And yes, there are more F keys above F12.

In the US, it's quite hard to change the constitution. It requires agreement from 2/3rds of Congress followed by ratification by the individual legislatures of 3/4ths of the states. Such a thing has not been done since 1992,

I installed Authy on a rooted phone just to yoink the SendGrid token out and put it in our usual shared authentication service. Such a pain in the ass. I would highly recommend against SendGrid in basically all circumstances fwiw.

Ironically I had the exact opposite experience on BART. Sure, occasionally "police activity" or a "major medical emergency" (splat) or maybe just equipment failure would lead to an extra long train trip. But 95% of the t

This "no bugs" maximalism is counterproductive. There are many classes of bugs that this cannot hope to handle. For example, let's say I have a transaction processing application that speaks to Stripe to handle the credit car

Crypto people were never using as many 4090s as they were 4060s and 4070s. Their price has gone up because of the AI craze, not crypto, as they are one of the few consumer nvidia cards with enough ram and compute to run decent local LLMs.

Depressurization happened around 17:12:33 PST but the aircraft continued to climb until 17:13:41 PST, and the autopilot was configured for 10k ft at 17:13:56 PST. Why did it take the pilots a full minute to begin an emergency descent after

Thank you for the response anyway! I do review my comments every so often to catch these. How do you know so much about GPS and how can I learn more? :) Also, is there any hope for "authenticated GPS" to prevent spoofing? Is that

Really? Why? What's the problem with using multiple GNSS constellations? They're receive-only. My phone definitely supports GLONASS but I hadn't checked Beidou.

You can't write checks. You give your bank account number and the debit is done online in real time.

I would hope that too. I imagine that as long as the pack still works, most cars will be sold forward on the used market. If the pack fails (either due to cell death or a crash or whatever), I bet many of them will not be properly recycled,

Honestly this is a bit crazy to me. Why does processing a check require an extension of credit here in 2024? Why can't the banks validate the check and transfer the money while you wait a few seconds at the teller window? All of the al

Hopefully zero! Still, if you replace your car (or its battery) every 10 years (pretty long IMO) and smoke one vape a day (yikes), you'll use more cells on your car than your vapes.

That's insane. The whole point of sideloading is that it should not require approval. Otherwise Apple can use this to block competitors and we're right back where we started.

This was the "don't ride like a jackwagon" part. My bike has a solid kW output, at least when the battery is full, but I don't zip down the trail at 26 mph all the time. Sure, occasionally I pull a max-speed segment for

This seems pretty clear to me. Open models are often remixed (e.g. fine-tuned, quantized, etc), which means it's pretty common to download an alternative model that leans on the trustability of the original open model. Look at all the
