Let me just provide a counter-point. As an early crypto advocate, and someone who has lost thousands of USD to hackers and scammers, I did not ever expect the government to bail me out. As you said, the whole point of crypto was to free our

Really? Can you give an example? I don't see why performance or battery life would need to be impacted for users of the default services. In other words, if you want to keep using Apple-only stuff, you would get the same outcome as tod

Well you can always drill holes in the platter, or hit them with a strong magnet, or just separate them and toss them in the trash. Unless you're fighting the NSA, you can probably get away with enough physical destruction to make reco

It still bothers me that my Slack domain is https://workplace.slack.com instead of https://slack.workplace.com . The enplatformification of the internet has affected the corporates as well as universities.

Neat! I knew about the existence of all of these individual things, but I appreciate the article laying out the photos and use cases for each. By the way, I recommend against "RJ45 Join Adapters" and instead towards "RJ45 Key

How does this deal with non-determinism from the outside world? For example, let's say one of my tests is flaky because it asks an external service to give it some data, and that external service is flaky in what it returns? Or what if

Wait, in non-multiline mode, it only matches _one_ trailing newline? And not any other whitespace, including \r or \r\n? That is indeed surprising behavior. Why? Why not just make it end of string like the author expected? >>>

Yeah for a decent period of time, the accessibility of Dropbox's desktop app was entirely dependent on one passionate blind forum user who called us out (politely!) every time we messed something up. It was a great, productive relation

The main engineering lesson of Jurassic Park is to consider whether fail safe is actually deadly. It depends, are you more afraid of a fire or rampaging "velociraptors"?

Yes, at the time I responded, the headline was much worse. The updated version actually provides some non-obvious information. The original merely said that prostate cancer isn't one disease.

One of the cases where code-is-law is actually better. The bitcoin community knew immediately that this wasn't Satoshi, because he didn't sign anything with the genesis block keys. Done and done.

Not to be rude or anything, but .... no duh? This is why looking for a "cure for cancer" is a bit nonsensical. There are many different ways for cell division to go wrong. Prostate cancer is just a cancer that affects the prostate
