I don't really think anyone is disputing that the government is able to change their approach to immigration (though it's telling they're doing it by just freezing appointments rather than passing a law), but that you can mak

I don’t understand the relevance. No one is using a tourist visa in this scenario and a tourist visa definitely isn’t dual intent in the way an H1B is.

H1B is explicitly a dual intent visa. You are allowed to pursue a green card while in the country on an H1B. It has been an accepted, valid path for a very long time now. If the government wishes to change that of course they can. But the h

Both exist. I’d imagine most HN commenters do not work for startup headed up by a founder. The majority work for larger companies where the CEO isn’t as hands on as a startup founder and is never seen in the workplace. I promise you there’s

Typical, all this DEI naming, promoting minority formats no one uses, while they refuse to recognize the majority are perfectly happy with camelCase! (/s in case it is needed)

This might be the first HN thread I’ve seen where the statement “regiwalled content is bad” is somehow attracting a lot of negative reactions…

Do you make the same complaint when folks post links to archive.is? If not, why is this different?

Surely not. Twitter is a niche social networking site. It’s something like 1/6 the active user base of Facebook, which would be the better comparison.

A real shame. Even if you put all the political arguments aside it sucks when a site requires you to log in before you can read content on it. For me that’ll mean I just don’t read content on there any more. Which I realise X doesn’t care a

That sounds ideal for cooking but I do wonder about programming. Models frozen in amber won’t ever learn new APIs as they become available and development will end up in some weird kind of stasis.

All anecdata here too but I agree. I’ve been in the industry long enough to remember when companies weren’t _all_ tech and us tech folks were considered specialists with a niche who charted their own course. These days tech is indispensable

“It’s seen as” Is the crucial statement there. Not “it is”. > It affects women and parents of girls No it doesn’t. It’s a new boogeyman to demonize that isn’t actually a factor in almost anyone’s lives. Not to mention that the people pus

I think you can measure “better” if you’re specific. I’m saying better for user experience. You are fine foregoing that if your development experience is better.

I’m not convinced it’s a binary thing like that. At the extreme end you have the father that steals bread to feed his starving family. At the other end you have the father that spends more time at work in pursuit of a promotion. I’m not sur
