I don't think they're mutually exclusive. You could just as easily describe someone with bootstrapping experience as being like an FAA crash investigator who investigates take offs. You get to know exactly what works when moving f

I really don’t think 404 Media having a login gate is a red flag. They’re a business that needs to make money and the alternative to subscriptions is ads, which would be exponentially worse for user safety than what exists today.

It should be more complicated but the way the Trump admin did this isn't complicated. Tariffs were used to punish countries that didn't bend the knee. When they did, the tariffs were removed. So no-one was ever going to build a fa

Feels related to the idea of "exonerative tense", a way of phrasing things to subtly absolute yourself of responsibility for your own actions. Puts me in mind of Trump being asked about the lack of evacuation plans around the Iran

IMO the biggest sell for Chromebooks in the education market (which is where they shine) is the software. It's a locked down OS with a cloud login that means when you encounter the slightest hardware issue you can swap out for another

The level of insecurity is something to behold. It's unfathomable that one of the major networks was ever going to run "Here's why America is Bad" as part of a 250th anniversary celebration. This entire pledge is nonsens

It's a downward spiral. As views start to decline there's more pressure to make money from the views that remain.

Sadly this is a reality of the money disappearing from the journalism industry. You're right, there absolutely should be fact checkers. A reporter absolutely shouldn't be filing while sick. And the big news orgs still do that. But

An illustrative lesson to anyone who joins a startup with the promise of a ton of stock: the company can make it worthless whenever they feel like it. Always remember that. As for Brewdog itself, there’s a lesson in VC mindset there as well

At the time neither WhatsApp nor Signal had iPad apps. Looking at it now it seems Signal added that in 2020, WhatsApp in 2025. But I switched years before both.

That’s fair but I think it’s kind of orthogonal to the original point. As is already the case in cities with robust public transit systems you’d need to make sure you’re applying the right incentives (i.e. taxes and charges) to make sure pe

Human driven cars cost people their lives multiple times every day, though. So I don't think the calculation can be quite as simple as that. As self driving cars are rolled out I think each incident like this needs to be studied to see
