Curious. What age do American children go to school on their own on public transport / foot / bike? In the UK (at least this corner of it) they’re allowed age 10.

It's heuristics, not grammar. You usually appreciate a noun or noun phrase in a transitive sentence (X appreciates Y). Case 1: If it's something useful (e.g. 'your help', 'what you did') then it's more lik

Appreciate has at least three entirely different meanings that I can think of. 1. To be grateful for something. 2. To fully understand something. 3. To increase in value I’m sure there are more. I read this as option 2.

I built something like this in CLIPS at university. Would easily suit Prolog too. When compared with the bookkeeping needed in this example, it’s a great demo of logic programming’s strengths. (If only I could find the code)

I don't understand the question as it's written. But the shape of the question feels like you're asking about whether an interpreter (which the compiler is not) uses the GC of the host language?

Interesting decision to implement a DSL in a programming language when the output is a static data structure. Seems more complex than writing the structure directly as YML or JSON (or a custom language like Mermaid or DOT). I can see the po

End you’re not allowed to reverse engineer the editor even though it builds from open source. I wonder how much legal reasoning went into that decision. It might be boilerplate, or it might be necessary for some other part of the contract.

I've had a ReMarkable 1 for a few years (including doing a bit of hacking [0]). My advice is don't rely on doing anything it wasn't designed for. It's fun to make it do novel things, but software updates can introduce br

I did this for my child and it worked well. Arduino compatible RFID module, ESP32 with and SD card and I2S. I ended up renaming the MP3s to match the card serial numbers, rather than program each one.

You are making quite broad statements, and they don't seem to take into account the diversity of research and scholarly practice. A lot of what you suggest is happening already, but it's far from perfect. The existing solutions al

I think the diversification is a strength, honestly. CERN and high-energy physics has _massive_ datasets. Making them all available on-line isn't practical. Other researchers may have one or two files that they want to cite as part of

There is a perception that DOIs signify something being 'official', whatever that means. But in the publishing ecosystem (e.g. Crossref), it's whatever the publisher decides to publish. There's a wide range of publishers

+1. I find it bizarre that so many web designers values their site so low as to sacrifice a quarter of the screen on the off chance of a signup. Stop a minute and think of the UX for people who aren’t Google customers.
