I think the core of problem here is that applications are not isolated on the OS level. If I download and install a mod for minecraft, it should never have access to anything on my computer, except for the minecraft game files itself. If I

Could you ask them to run an introspection query? Something like SELECT * FROM information_schema.tables?

Does anyone know: is there a simplified nix language initiative out there? I feel like the main blocker for nix adoption is the language itself.

What kind of sysadmins are they then? I don't want to sound dismissive, but is a "windows sysadmins" a thing? Do companies run windows on servers?

How did you reach the conclusion it was not an inside job? Or an intentional israeli delay so the response was "justified"? I'm not being snarky, but from what I gather, Isreal could have prevented that.

Ok, hear me out: what if we make something that takes a postgres database dir, tars it together and encodes it as a binary blob in SQLite? We could have SQLite within postgres within sqlite within postgres! Is it practical or even slightly

Cool. I assumed it uses ripgrep (or the underlying walkdir) because that's the established high-performance tool for this. But apparently not.

Holding back is retaliation against employers who don't want to invest into maximum employee efficiency. But you make a good point about that also hurting yourself. Sub-par tools hurt. I'd agree with you to invest in tools you use

I can testify that Chinese EVs are starting to pop up in Europe. Not a lot, but if you do a lot of driving, you can spot one or two a day. Given their price and performance, I think we'll be seeing more of them in the future. The two d

To me, just is make without features I don't need. There is not a lot of benefit for me, but there is a lot of benefit for other people who need to learn the repo and have no knowledge of either make or just. Another benefit is that ju

Is genesis a religious word? I thought it meant beginning in greek? Using this logic, the word "revalation" would also be religious.

The culture of the ecosystem, ease of dependency chain attacks, lack of static type system + rigorous number handling which can lead to subtle bugs.

I think that the appeal of just is that it is simpler than make. It is not checking timestamps of files, but executes a DAG of tasks unconditionally.

This is the way. We should make it a standard practice for oss projects that one is able to git clone, direnv allow and build the project. Regardless of the distro or even OS. An easy thing to say, but hard to execute on actual projects wit

I've been using tmux for some time now and have gotten pretty good with it, but the other day I got fed up with small problems of copy mode and how it displays tabs, so i tried zellij. First impression: way too much visual clutter. Sec

This is probably referring to "zero changes to your driver code" and not "zero changes to the SQL you send over this driver". Translating between SQL dialects is notoriously hard and attempts to translate [1] are working

Yeah, we use an SQL formatter that is a bit too verbose for most tastes. But I do agree, PRQL is not really needed for simple queries - it starts to shine only when you have 5+ transforms (clauses).

There are nuclear plants that have been decommissioned and have not exploded. So using just this data, there is a probability that a given nuclear plant will melt down in its lifecycle. And that probability is greater than 0, but far less t
