For raspberry pi projects, I've used https://fedoraproject.org/iot/ which has some rough edges but is great for runing some podman containers as systemd services. It (and all of fedora IIRC) requires a pi2 or grea

I went '67 MGB to boxster and while air conditioning and having a working radio is nice (and it was just a much more practical car all around... which isn't saying much), there's something about classic cars that is just fun

I just use the web version which works well enough on chrome, but is annoying. But luckily we also have slack and that's where most of data science/software collaboration happens

But how often are you actually writing an implementation vs. calling a method from a graph library? Knowing when you need a topological ordered list of vertices is (in my opinion) more useful than knowing how to implement tsort.

There's also pipewire which doesn't depend on ozone, but is optional I guess. What's even worse, slack doesn't allow sharing from chrome which just works for MS Teams via pipewire.

I've also been wearing gloves out places just so that my hands don't get too dry from using so much hand sanitizer/washing. Washing or sanitizing the gloves doesn't dry out my skin which is nice.

GNOME on Wayland seems to handle moving windows between displays with different DPIs, it's not super graceful and seems to only apply the new DPI once >50% of the window is on the new display though. I haven't used fractional s

It sounds like you weren't using Wayland if you were playing with xrandr, and it handles mixed dpi screens without any issues

Also I'd be surprised if https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Evince wasn't easy to install if it's not included out of the box.

I have been using btrfs in RAID 10 at home for several years with no issues. From what it sounds like, he didn't really have any issues with RAID 5, but btrfs scrub took longer than the ZFS equivalent. I'm even using btrfs with zs

Most of PySpark is simply telling the JVM what to do, it's not actually running python directly. UDFs are where the real differences are, and they mentioned CLR UDFs serialize the spark Rows 2x faster than Python, but it's not cle

Python 2.7? Also, the new Apache Arrow integration changes the python performance characteristics a lot; I wonder if they are using arrow for their JVM <-> CLR interop, if not that probably would be a good idea.

Sorry for the late reply, but parquet is a columnar format so if it's big enough data, you should have multiple pages/blocks of data in a single column for a specific row group, and then be able to seek to the next row group and s

It's 100GB compressed. Parquet does a very good job of compressing most data so that's where the estimate of 10x (so 1TB) uncompressed was mentioned as a rule of thumb. Parquet also supports much better access mechanisms, like bei

I used to just look for something similar in the gallery: https://scitools.org.uk/cartopy/docs/latest/gallery/ but the docs definitely do assume you know about map projections.

Same idea for datashader. If you're overlaying datashader on a map, use the projected coordinates as input (to both datashader and/or any heatmap).

There are two optimal values for speed depending on the objective. There is a max endurance speed (for holding, etc.) and a max range speed, both are a function of altitude. So slowing down under those speeds will decrease efficiency, but t

Mixed DPI works for one. I'm using GNOME on wayland currently but that's really the only thing I've noticed that's better than X.

It used to be much better (I run linux on my 2013 MBP, and used to run it on my 12" powerbook back in the day), but I think there's been some progress on the newer MBPs: https://github.com/Dunedan/mbp-2016-lin
