I've been part of an on call rotation at my current job and previous job. Both had the same rules because I and other engineers insisted on it. * You are only on-call for systems you can directly change. * The person who is on call has

Yes. It's like the results when people realized you could have a classifier trained to match a person's face, reversed to generate a new face based on the classifier. There are a few extra steps, but the web is just recipe sites a

This is like a cook at a restaurant burning dinner and then telling the patrons they needed to go on a diet anyway.

For three, I've been trying an approach that I took from an HN article a while ago. Instead of a Playbook, create a Python script that just prints text for each step and prompts for YES to confirm the step was completed. Then, I automa

I think positive rights like a right to housing(housing first homeless programs) and healthcare(people have a right to medical care) are a great example and I don't know why you are dismissing them as examples.

Democracy is very successful in preventing political violence. Violence is incredibly destructive to people’s real daily welfare.

I read this as, everything the leaving employee was complaining about and said they wanted finally happened, but they still chose to leave. I'm not sure which is right.

I mostly agree with you but "And less contagious is better than more contagious." is a giant hand wave in a logical argument. You should explain what specific outcome in the longer term improved by this and justify that.

I don't like the implication that being busy is indication that something is being accomplished. I would ask the question, what are the outputs of this schedule? If there are meetings that happen but don't have meaningful outputs,

If the air tag is sufficiently hidden, perhaps this is a feature and not a bug. Maybe this will make them stop the car and leave it, which sounds like a win to me.

These ideas aren't so bad when they are voluntary, but that is never enough. There is inherently a power behind this where a small group needs to force a large group to do what they say.

Slightly tangential, but I really love the minimal but effective site design here. It is minimal, responsive and easy to read. Is this a theme or just the author being very effective and throwing together a documentation site?

I don't understand this claim of readability. If it were true, then you wouldn't be able to read a code base with a different code style. In truth, the switch takes about 10 seconds for me to get used to. Which is about 10,000 tim

Honestly, I'm more worried about what 13 years in prison did to the person than the original crime. We don't know what the original crime was so it is hard to say in this case. Perhaps they have some deep, anti-social personality
