What if you don't have the rights to install anything on the server and the sysadmin doesn't want to install Emacs there? (For good reasons.) Vi(m) will be there.

I'm playing around with fish since a couple of minutes and one zsh completion thing I am missing is "fuzzy" completion. In zsh with the following files in a directory: log-20120103 log-20120104 log-20120503 log-20120603

Might be an OS X thing. At work on Debian zsh starts up instantly, at home on OS X it takes a good couple of seconds.

I've tried to get started a few times and I am finding it to be the most frustrating thing I've ever done in my life. I think there is something in my brain that is completely against what is involved with coding; it's like I have some cog

As a non-professional, I use a non-realtime JACK as the new ESD. I prefer that over the incomprehensible monster that PulseAudio is. My needs are simple: I want sound from my audio player (MOC), from my browser (f.e. Youtube), from games a

It was good fun especially the drinks afterwards were a good occassion to talk with the other developers and organizers. The jury was heavily biased towards algorithms that created VBWs from nothing so we didn't stand a chance :-)

Yes, for EVE the metagame is half the fun! I wrote an API trawler for Sniggerdly / Pandemic Legion when the API key functionality got released. We tried catching alts and spies that way (applying required giving us their full API key). Ano

No, I think it is just a joke: if you parse "*2" as "times two" you could optimize it in code by shifting the bits left since bit shifting operations are cheaper than multiplication. #b0001 = 1 #b0010 = 2 #b0100 = 4 #b1000 = 8

On Debian (and possibly Ubuntu) one can get the SBCL package from unstable (it doesn't depend on much) and go from there if installing from source is too much of a hassle. Don't install any other Common Lisp stuff SBCL doesn't depend on fro

I hate to be that guy but I can't even zoom this page using Firefox. The font size is huge and can't be made smaller. Why do people do this? What setting in this page is responsible for this?

You are right on all points, I come however from 10 years of Vim and 15 years of Emacs so it is a natural fit. Vim emulation modes are mostly for people who prefer a certain environment, like f.e. Emacs but want more efficient keybindings.

That was indeed a long time ago :-) After that it was possible for a long time to have your character training a skill while you subscription had run out. That was a good way to make a specialized alt with Battleship 5, etc. for half or 1/

I moved over to evil-mode (Vim emulation) in Emacs a couple of months ago and do most things the Vim way but some things are more efficient to do in a non-Vim manner and this is one of them. Although I use M-- and M-| for vertical and horiz
