Check out The Great Suspender [1] - not quite what you mean, but it basically unloads the tab and replaces it with a bare bones placeholder after it's been inactive for a bit. When you come back to it, you just click the link and it re

This is actually the first explanation of snapchat's appeal that makes sense to me. I guess my friend group doesn't really use it though, there's not much use for it unless you have an existing social group to interact with?

Absolutely! I honestly think that if PHP didn't have those incredibly accessible documentation pages, it would never have taken off in the way it did. It was StackOverflow before there was StackOverflow.

This really makes me think Google is in some aspects the Xerox PARC labs of our generation... is any other company doing this kind of research investment?

Ah, okay, I didn't know the on the year term. there is absolutely no news here if this is merely a dip in production from Oct-Dec to Jan-March as holiday sales are always high and then dip down significantly after January. Rig

I don't see anything in the article that says it's a 10% cut compared to last year, but maybe I missed it, can you clarify?

10% or more reduction in the quarter after the holidays is always to be expected. This is just more of the usual "we need to write about _something_" journalism. Sigh. (PS: anecdotally, 3 family members upgraded to 7s/7s+ in

1) OSX is not viable any longer? Really? As evidenced by what? I mean, looking at WWDC talks, there's a ton of improvement year over year. Of course there's always more things that could be done, but remember, the core OS team is

Yeah, I understand they wouldn't be convinced to release the source, but that's why I am thinking about a middle ground, to have someone volunteer to help organize it, while still keeping the code private. Though I guess there

I think he's being downvoted because the observation does not say anything about the contents of the article linked. If there is nothing substantive to contribute to the discussion, better to say nothing.

I know they don't want to open source it, but I wonder if they would be amenable to having a volunteer who would help organize and push the code into a version control system hosted on their private server. In an interview I read, Tarn

Your reply seems both patronizing and critical of the researcher's personal qualities, without apparently any objective reason other than puritanical "sex is bad". I am really surprised seeing a comment like this on HN.

Yeah, this is the hidden cost of not choosing sane defaults. If you're not sure what "sane" is, default to "most likely/common use case". It's good to hear this is changed to opt-in in Angular 2 though.
