I had a m1 mbp and have used three external monitors from day one. Used a startech 3x4k hub for that. It uses display link - which is sw-based rendering. Worked like a charm for dev work. You likely couldnt tell that from directly connected

I had a weird one. Got covid and my taste for alcohol got ...corrupted. For the first 200ms of a sip of wine or beer it tasted normally, and then a wave of extremely bitter aftertaste would come and drown all the other tastes. It lasted a f

I bought two identical 3x 4k docks from Startech, and used them for M1 and M1 Max macbooks. One of them developed a very loud coil whine. No other problems, but it was too loud to be used alongside a dead silent laptop. The other is fine. D

I have two 3x4k display Startech hubs, and one developed a very audible coil whine, the other did not. It was so bad it landed in a drawer. Otherwise both worked fine allowing me to drive 3 screens on the OG M1 mbp. They each cost around 35

Not sure if anyone made that claim in this thread. It is however true that "an average person in portugal" can get around 1.5 mac mini m1 and not 0.5 as you claimed. Given that a computer may easily last someone 10 years of usage,

I have those 6 screens plugged to two different macs, so just 3 on each. Big screen in the center, and two in portrait mode on the sides. One uses 43" 4k for the center screen, the other uses a 34" ultrawide. The m1 max drives its

Same here. Great computer. The only thing I am missing is a bit more reliable support for waking up external monitors. Between my now two m1/m1 max macs and 6 screens I use, one (an Asus 2k display which is slow to wake up from sleep)

Right, but that would hardly serve any practical purpose, as one still couldn't plug an off the shelf m.2 device and expect it to work. So - why constrain yourself with someone elses connector design if if adds no value?

Can totally relate. I, too, run from boring stuff instead of trying to fix it. 20 years in corporate structures told me its a war of attrition. The departments and people who like stupid, boring games introduced into the workplace have orde

Within reason. I use type annotations solely as means of documenting code, with the added benefit of having autosuggest work all of the time. I am one of those guys who put a lot of comments in their code.

Yeah, this! I was doing 13,000km by bike every year for years and kept gaining weight until I hit 122.5kg. I was able to go on a 40km hike, cycle for 200km and bench press my body weight easily, but kept getting heavier. I stopped all excer

I've used Miele appliances for 3 decades now. Somehow, until recently, they managed to provide excellent quality and durability without spying on their users and releasing half baked firmwares in need of updates.
