The complaints of what amounts to essentially support contract extortion are something that I've personally experienced. They were literally ignoring our repeated customer service tickets pleading for assistance or a phone call or something

Honestly I'm happy to know that when I receive an update to my experience it wasn't neutered out of a desire to maintain backwards compatibility with windows 3.1...I mean iPad 1G. The backwards compatibility forever mindset may still be nec

I actually tried using my IPad as a primary device for work. I was living in ssh back then so with a Bluetooth keyboard it seemed like I would be able to. What I found was that the software itself, while fine when it's biggest limitation wa

Wow, what recourse is available in this situation? None? Does this mean that 100% they are going to now be blackmailed to get their domain back?

This excites me. I would love to see some serious heat in the social networking space, some competition might break the innovation logjam. We can stop competing on how many people can fit in one vid chat and start actually adding some value

The article is really interesting, but I can't help but be suspicious of the data (opinion) contained within. The expert used in the article is John Holcomb, who owns a supplement e-commerce site. I can't find anything on his site that talk

Thanks for the information! I've updated the article to reflect this. Here's a question: where does "the field" hang out? Is there a cohesive community of any sort?

For this I actually had sufficient data available that adding more didn't do much. You need a testing dataset in order to validate the performance of the model. If you validate against the training set really what you're doing is measuring

I used to prototype with Octave but I actually find I"m much faster in python. I push my tests to EC2 and just use cProfile to make sure I'm not doing anything silly before hand. I parallelize with celery, but I've also used pp with some li

Yep, I've definitely seen that. I bet if I were to reserve a portion of the dataset for validation after all tuning, I'd get a much better measure of it's actual ability at prediction. Using it in the way that I did, I wouldn't be surprised

I've been doing this for a long time, it's the only way I can stay sane. I get several hours to myself with no interruptions and I can work on personal projects and be totally unaccountable to anyone.

This review is absolutely asinine, which is clear regardless of your leanings towards the concept of a browser-as-an-os device. It'sa thinly veiled one-sided lash-out against a new technology which is apparently disruptive to MS's (or at le

You think that's bad, you should hear my experience trying to buy a license to the virtual center for the free version of vmware server in 2009. At one point I had a 3 way call going with VMWare's local vendor and VMWare corporate where the

This article mirrors an implicit assumption that I see in a lot of these anti-materialist articles - that being that accumulation is the desired result of the undesired (and presumably unfulfilling), all dreaded, "work." For some of us accu
