How long is it going to take universities and companies to face the reality that we should not be assessing people's capabilities in a vacuum where they can't access the tools that they will be using in the real world. If knowledg

Am I missing something? You're saying that you bought a device 9 years ago with the exact same specs(8gb ram, 256 disk) that are currently being sold for about the exact same price. And you are saying that macs last a long time? How is

Totally agree. However, I think that this current generation is fundamentally different because of a different balance between culture and counterculture driven by demographic changes. The 50s through to the 90s were all time periods when t

I always find it interesting to think about bicycles and just how recently they were invented. Compare bicycles with steel making, for example. Steel making happened thousands of years ago. The modern bicycle was what - under 200 years ago?

Context is everything. 1. How important is it that we get an estimate? Things take the same amount of work with or without the estimate, so how bad is it actually if we don't know how long something will take? And no - a feeling of gen

I find it interesting that we have a single word for creativity in the context of novel work. These systems are incredible at generating novel art or poetry. But when it comes to problem solving, they struggle adapting to a novel problem. W

How is this not for the purposes of fixing prices? Isn't the intent here to prevent the competitor bank from needing to sell their assets and driving down prices, leading to contagion?

I think having a better understanding about the underlying statistical model of how these AIs are trained is helping me keep back the wave of fear and anxiety associated with AI risks. The singularity requires AIs to be very good at doing t

You misunderstood my point... f in this example is the function which computes the first number that does not show up in the first X samples of OEIS sequences(so in the paper cited, OEIS stores only the first 180, so when x is 180, f(x) = 2

Based on what you're describing, I suppose you could have any number of pieces. Imagine you've got a 2D sheet of paper and you just fold it in half many times, and then cut through all the folds. You could have as many pieces as y

Not sure you've got the right angle on that... Did openai replace the associate dean here, or did the associate dean replace their secretary and writer. I think the latter. No way they would send anything without high level approval. T
