Absolutely agree. Digg should be run by 3 to 5 people tops at its current size. It'll still cost more than $500k to transition the service to whatever it is they have in mind. It'll probably cost more than $500k just to trim Digg down to si

I'd wager they spent it. Crunchbase reports they had 60 employees at some update in the past, so it was probably higher than that at the peak. 60 employees alone probably cost them $6 to $8 million per year depending on all the perks. You c

The only reason it's $500k and not $0 is to save a small amount of face. Digg is losing money, and has never made money in its entire history, so it's going to cost Betaworks a lot more than $500k to take it over.

I find it fascinating how little attention this huge branding mistake has gotten. It was extraordinarily amateurish on the part of Apple, the kind of mistake I would have expected from Microsoft a few years ago. Except had Microsoft made th

The real economy part is absurd. America has a very real economy. It's the world's largest manufacturer (yes, larger than China). There are more people working REAL jobs in America than the total number of people in Germany. And you just in

Worse, people exchange mouth bacteria regularly. Provides the perfect rapid evolution landscape to build super bacteria. So even if perhaps a few % start using it, it might be enough to set off a situation where people that didn't use it ge

People tend to over-estimate change in the short term and under-estimate it in the long term. They're going to miss by 20 to 30 years, at least.

I intentionally left out WW2 because only one nation on earth had nukes, and only at the end of the war. It's not a valid reference in a discussion about multiple countries having nukes and that acting as a form of peaceful standoff. The po

Google is attempting to build new brand value around design, so they can better compete with Apple directly in hardware. That's the entire point of the magic eight ball. It's intentionally unusual. They want props for design, not for functi

The law of big numbers is harder to climb than the projectors would ever like to admit. Which is why the Japanese and German 'miracle' economies of the mid 1960s-1980s didn't lead to either of them becoming super powers. China and India wil

A strong China would be the best thing to happen to America in decades. What America has lacked, really since the Soviets of the 1960s, is a strong competitor (another super power). America would be greatly strengthened by a stronger China.
