That's incorrect. Tipping is standard, but the percentages are not set. Thus it is still a reward and is not defeated by being a standard practice. Sales people work on commission typically, and that system is absolutely not harmed by that

You're being down voted because you didn't say anything. HN users hate that even more than complaining.

It seems like the NYT doesn't show the interstitial ads on immediate repeat visits (once per day perhaps?). Hit the nyt.com site, then hit it again shortly thereafter and snap that visit. Can your approach accept cookies?

Can't find a single mention of the Springfield Gazette in relation to Lincoln via Google, or at the Lincoln Museum site. Also can't find any evidence in searching, that the Springfield Gazette has ever existed. Certainly is suspicious.

I never said it was bad work. Don't misrepresent what I actually said. I said it's a sex worker job. Which it is. I'd love to see an explanation for how getting paid to perform phone sex is not a sex worker job.

Zynga is under-performing the Nasdaq by around 37% over the last 90 days. So no, tech stocks in aggregate have not declined 32% at all. The Nasdaq is around 2.5% below its 6 month high (off about 78 points). A small list of major tech stock

When it's pointed toward someone's real wife, in a sincere thread about something important - well, sex worker jokes aren't funny in that situation. Particularly given the guy isn't a friend of yours, nor is the wife. Suggestion: never try

It's not dry humor, they're not joking. The fact that they're not joking, explains the FBI's actions to begin with. You have to look at the world from their perspective: you exist by special permission, your rights exist so long as they cho

20 years ago the TSA would have been a strong enough shock to the American public that they would have revolted. Now they accept that level of abuse. So the bar has clearly been raised to a very high level, and it keeps going higher. They'r

I like the part where the Swedish investor stepped up for a product he cared about, took the risk, and will likely reap the reward after the IPO. Great story. Almost an eBay-pez worthy story, but real.

Now is a really good time to cash in the chips, or at least return outside money and batten down the hatches (which Soros and Icahn have done). The global economy is rolling over, coming down off a massive stimulus fueled sugar high that ha

Should really specify that the revenue listed is for one quarter. Also worth mentioning that James Breyer does not own 7.632% of Facebook. Accel Partners owns most of that stake, and Breyer has his own personal, smaller stake in Facebook.

A lot of news sites allow voting without being logged in, as well as in the comment sections. Business Insider, the largest business site, allows it (Quantcast #235). It's premised on the notion that for 99.999% of people, they're not going

If only most of the taxes the government takes actually went to benefit society. At least then there could be a sympathetic argument made for where $6 trillion goes each year. That's $30,000 per adult, per year, in taxes (local+state+federa
