At least where I live the government is happy to spend a million euros every year to postpone a five million one time cost.

The reason climate change isn’t solved is that it’s a problem that can’t be solved by technology alone. We already have all the technology we need to decarbonize. We lack the political will to make the necessary investment.

The important part remains internalizing emission costs into the price of electricity. Fussing over individual users seems like a distraction to me. Rapid decarbonization of electricity is necessary regardless of who uses it. Demand will s

If you had a solar fence you could run the AC during max solar production for a couple of hours and not use it the rest of the day then. You might want to do the math on replacing the HVAC with a heat pump before it breaks, might be a good

A kWh of batteries costs about 200€ where I live, but if the panels cost a comparable amount to a normal fence you can probably just run the AC a bit cooler when the sun shines and use your house as a thermal battery.

France is effectively planning to reduce nuclear power though. Since they want to keep nuclear weapons it won’t go to zero, but they’re not planning to build enough new reactors to maintain their current output. Electricity demand however w

You need something that can provide instantaneous reserve to stabilize the frequency. Traditionally that’s inertia of lots of big spinning generators. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inertial_response
