What's the point in having leverage if you're not going to use it? This was their moment. They have the second largest audience of desktop users. They have their leverage, and chose not to use it.

What's worse, is that if the ISP had implemented multicast for real, then we could save enormous amounts of bandwidth. Think of the wasted traffic has thousands of people watch a live stream in unison. Or the millions watching viral y

No, the notion of the unbreakable one time pad is a great notion to have around. It is the good standard for crypto systems. Yes it's unworkable in practice but that's exactly why nobody really uses it. It is useful for teaching

The "implementation" of an interface is the code that actually does stuff when that interface is called. In this case, the implementation of the DRM hooks are those proprietary DRM modules. This "standard" shuts everyone

I'm not sure I follow. The DRM extensions are basically hooks to proprietary plugins. If the plugin decides that you didn't view the ad, then it will refuse to play to request media. Then can and will be workarounds, but thanks

But any agreed upon public standard should be implementable by any vendor. DRM extensions do not fit this bill. If only a select few can implement it, then why call it a standard?

DRM can force you to do whatever you want. It's proprietary code running on your system. If you want to view the content, it will ensure that you've seen the ad before it renders the content.

Why does everyone keep talking about removing it. If the report is written from scratch every time, there's no need to remove the canary statement. You just don't include it in the next copy of the report. The old statement is no

I hope not. BB10 is a very nice operating system. I'd hate to see it go to waste. I find it much more responsive and snappy than Android.

A citation showing what? That Wikipedia deleted PR accounts recently? Or that this article was posted after that happened? Both those events are easily searchable. Hacker News comments are not a fucking encyclopaedia.

It also won't make you go slower. And rolling at a constant low speed is much less frustrating than constant stop and go traffic. Especially for people driving standard. It's also more fuel efficient.
