I feel like the whole programmer community is literally running out of things to try. And this is the result. And somehow I find it really intriguing. Next PaaS prediction: hosted Postgres with PL/v8, pgpodman, pg_graphql and PostgREST

What an absolute dumpster fire. These issues will end harming decades old traditions of open source collaboration and hacking. This is not the way.

I share this experience and I'm also moving from induction back to gas after around 6 years of use. I've experienced the uneven heat (liquid boiling right over the coil, cold next to it), shitty duty-cycle pulsing (no way of getti

These examples are very reassuring to me. Sometimes, after a long day of fighting whatever trendy JS framework my current project uses, I may be tempted to advocate for a "back to the basics" approach with vanilla JS or even jQuer

I don't think so. I mean, this is not hiding tailwind behind custom classes or React components or anything, these are literally examples of tailwind usage using tailwind features. So, less of a component library and more of a nice col

This article is very outdated. PHP has closures, can natively pass callables as arguments and you don't need any of these workarounds: https://www.php.net/manual/en/functions.anonymous.php It's not idio

I agree, this is the case already to some extent. And yes, the article is quite vague in general. I believe it's intended as thought-provoking and not really a proper argumentation. I think in that sense it's an interesting piece.

I believe the point being made here is that, indeed, scientific method is based on accuracy of prediction. However, in order to reach a good accuracy, a great deal of fine-tuning and tweaking is required. E.g. high energy physics. The stand

I totally agree that it's perfectly fine to discuss morals, even condemn them, it's a valid conversation and it should be explored. Your point about the morality of their actions is totally valid in itself. A valid and well suppor

Illegally, "allegally", of dubious concordance with the spirit of the law, maybe. But immorally? That is very much a matter of opinion don't you think?

Yeah what the world needs is an app where people can bet you'll age badly and short your "conversation tokens". Capitalism!

Could you point me to any sources where I can read more about this things, e.g. grants on "multi-language communication services" and such? Not meaning to doubt you, but it all seems a little too good (or maybe bad) to be true, do

Used to be a big fan of mechanical keyboards. Tried a few, with blue and brown cherry switches, Chinese knockoffs, full size, tenkeyless, 60%, the whole journey. Nowadays I'm happy with a 9€ Logitech K120. Go figure.

Honest question: how isn't this dumping? I thought that anti-dumping measures were a thing. Couldn't it be argued that nine years of losses mean fares are being sold below cost to push out competition, and therefore this is not ok

Slashtrace looks very interesting. Any pointers on how would it integrate with frameworks with built-in catch-all handlers for dev, like Symfony?

Here's the one, I believe. Linked to parent for context: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14754 PS: They're basically the same, really, just adding another candidate to yours.

What are _you_ doing to leave a long-lasting meaningful impact? Billionaires are people too, just with more money. Having money doesn't make you "just ego".

This is a generalization. As an European too, there's plenty of places here where it's common to just have some salt and oil and the protagonists are very much the different vegetables (and other stuff!) you put in the salad. Same

From what I gather this is a pretty standard electric propulsion system: some inert gas is ionized and accelerated with an electric field. Gas escapes through the back, motor gets pushed forward. Pretty much like any rocket.

Seems like the different screen size doesn't totally translate into a proportionally smaller device: the 11 inch is 30mm smaller in width and 20mm in depth, that's 36mm diagonal, when the screen is 2.4 inches, or about 61mm smalle

The earth crust is estimated to be in the order of 10^19 kg. The 6x10^24 figure you mention is the mass of the whole earth. So your calculation if off by 5 orders of magnitude.

Constant thrust means constant acceleration, so speed goes up indefinitely with a constant supply of energy. But kinetic energy is proportional to the speed squared. So you get more energy than you put in.
