There's a problem with that, though: fetchmail won't notice state changes in your mailbox — like, whether an email is read or not, whether you've replied, forwarded it already, etc. That's why I came to despise the MUA/MTA schism of Unix so

That's a very interesting, and strong way to view it — however, I feel like this is still not going to solve the main issue: Yes, my intellect is my property, and it's going to stay that way. But my intellect needs to feed on — artifact

I must agree with you; but the list itself got so much exposure in the German media already, that it'd be pointless debating this collection in GoogleMaps. In general, it's kind of a difficult topic. I agree, that votes cast should always

The rural southern areas are conservative, not fascist — though their conservatism usually implies a bit of racism, that doesn't mean that they tend to support radical fascism. They're usually too scared to ruin their public or neighborhood

It's actually interesting, because Job's complaint about "wearing out" the Apple logo with over-exposure is a well known problem in design… and, well, propaganda, too. The Nazis had a similar problem towards the end of the war: absolutely e

I love Lennart Poettering's (the OP) response: "Die Wahl Deiner Worte adelt wahrlich Deine Gedanken" It's German and actually really difficult to translate. I'll give it a shot: "Your choice of words truly ennobles your thoughts." <3 I

You don't really need '-C HEAD' at all. The default behavior is to just reuse the last commit message, which is, implicitly, HEAD.

Native integration, mostly. I.e. clipboard stuff and a shiny interface. Also, colors. Me, I compiled vim over ports and use it via rxvt-unicode or as gvim in an XQuartz session. That, and I run XMonad in that same session. This way, my iMac

I'll leave this here, since it's loosely on-topic (of Markov chains:) http://www.joshmillard.com/garkov/ — Garfield strips with MC-generated text instead of the original. I've had countless hours of fun with them.

I'm with you when you say that I find it more engaging now to create useful stuff, or generally beneficial stuff. But when I was a teenager, it was quite different. I admired black hats, and people who wrote viruses, because they were playi

Well, you can destroy something blandly, or you can destroy it in an intricate, even intelligent fashion. Just as you can create something blandly — to just barely serve its purpose. See, destruction is also creation. She creates viruses.

I agree that autism/ADD/depression do get hyped as a 'trendy disorder.' But the 'spectacular' numbers the diagnostic methods receive are in part also to the fact that these methods have improved dramatically. We have no point of comparison.

What WM are you using? Fullscreen flash works on XMonad (you have to customize the manage-hook, but that's in the FAQ.)

For people who enjoy stuff like this, I'd recommend http://vimcasts.org/ — probably has been mentioned on HN at least a few times, but there seem to be people on this thread still amazed by what this guy was doing in the screen cast. Vimc

> English will certainly outlast Chinese. That's a conjecture at best. Chinese has so far outlasted any language still actively spoken on the planet. In fact, the Chinese writing system is the oldest continually used writing system.

I'll disagree. The features you listed apply to other languages much better than they do to English (except the bit about influential countries.) Chinese has a richer vocabulary, is more succinct and has a much less sophisticated grammati
