Interesting - we switched TO jira about a year ago (onsite version), and I love it. Yes, it took time to set up our workflow, but I find it does both the small tasks (day-to-day management and issue tracking) and large tasks (cross-team pla

I hear this a lot, that people move platforms "all the time", but it's not really true as it relates to Facebook. Before Facebook, the vast majority of users on social media (MySpace), were teenagers and young adults. Social

Still, if the highway were only autonomous networked vehicles, you could do some other cool things, like allow faster speeds and more throughput because the cars could be spaced closer together.

I can buy the regulatory measures in certain areas, which is why I mentioned the highway. I find it very difficult to believe that these kind of regulations would be adhered to, 100% of the time, in the chaos of a busy urban center.

I hear this a lot, but, given what I've read recently about the true state of self-driving cars, I think the "robocars as a replacement for taxis (especially in cities, Uber's main market)" is a REALLY long ways off, i.e

Yeah, "transactions" doesn't mean people are using it to pay for actual goods with their bitcoin, it's just every time btc moves from one wallet to another. I'm sure the volume of tulip transactions was very high du

Yeah, this seems silly to me. Judges very rarely reject settlement offers, so if 324.5 million was deemed so low as to reject the settlement, bumping it up a bit to 415 doesn't make much of a difference.

It doesn't appear incorrect to me. The blurb on the graph says "For example, a higher percentage of Elwoods are farmers than of most any other name." As I read it, it means that, say, 1% of Elwoods become farmers, while only

I recall reading an article, though, where Michael Phelps admitted he didn't eat as much as was reported. The story about the gargantuan amounts he ate was something the media loved, and something that helped build a "mythology&qu

Agreed, I think GMaps is probably the best example of "we have too many people working on this and we need to give them something to do". Perhaps people could have accused me of just needing to "get used to it" a year ag

Agreed. Given the knee-jerk reaction of "Anything that Obama supports is bad", Ted Cruz is now tarring this as "Net Neutrality is the Obamacare of the Internet". I like how "Obamacare" has become the new Commun

This interaction looks like it could be confusing as everywhere else people are used to the drag-and-drop interaction (or, in mobile, tap-and-drag).

Agreed. If there is ever a shining example of why competition is important and mono/duopolies are bad, take a look at T-Mobile. Can you imagine if the DOJ let the AT-T/TMobile merger go through? And given that history, how they ar

This is 4 years old, and I suspect Apple's position has only improved since then, but see http://fortune.com/2010/08/07/big-macs-on-campus/ . To your "dueling anecdotes" point, it's a

No, I believe OP is pointing out that a newer product (the iPad) is being cannibalized by a product originally released earlier (the iPhone). The iPhone cannibalizing the iPod was to be expected - the iPhone came later. I think it is a pret

I disagree. A fundamental, language-level problem with Java is that clients need to know when they are accessing a member var, e.g. obj.foo, vs. calling a method, e.g. obj.foo(). This means that its much safer to always wrap things in a met

The fact that this settlement was rejected by the judge should be an embarrassment for the plaintiffs' lawyers, and IMO is a great example of the problems with the incentives in class action settlements. Basically, the judge is saying
