I could imagine a billionaire wouldn't really notice it, as they'd probably expect it would cost a lot to keep a large lawn lush and green.

Billions in profit? You are sorely mistaken: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=YHOO+Income+Statement . For years, Yahoo was propped up by it's stake in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan. In fact, the core business was valued

Because, unless you're something like a utility that just keeps on chugging at a steady state, most large businesses don't just "steady state" - they either grow or die, largely because some other competitor will grow

Yeah, honestly I'd think it were sad if they were, say, manufacturing employees who were laid off and had poor prospects, but in today's market any decent engineer or product person who worked at Twitter would be snapped up in a s

Can you explain your disgust about the negotiation secrecy? This is one complaint I really don't understand. Diplomacy is almost always done in secrecy until both sides are ready to propose something concrete. As the top comment says,

The other phrasing of the problem that I've seen help people is this (I think was also originally from Marilyn Vos Savant): Suppose there are a thousand doors, and only one is a car. Monty opens 998 of them to reveal goats, leaving doo

Agreed, but the Monty Hall problem wouldn't make sense (at least from the game show perspective) if Monty's selection were random. If his selection were random, and he picked the car, it would just be "OK, I randomly decided

I wouldn't really say it's PR, it's more like it just went viral. As in, I wouldn't say the Bedroom Intruder guy or Charlie Bit My Finger had great PR. They just did something that touched a nerve and people pounced.

Umm, I don't mean to sound crass, but if you have 5 kids, 3 who live with you and 2 who do not, and a spouse who isn't currently working, I am not surprised that you find it difficult to save money. At the same time, it's not
