For my use case, I ended up converting the PDF to a single png image and then use Amazon Textract on it. This allows me to easily convert pdf tables into csv files all from within php. Would love to find a cheaper (local) option vs AWS, bu

I marvel at how small they are. Why not add 20, 100, or 1000 more mirrors to JWT? Or launch 10 more of these and go full interferometry? Maybe I've just been playing to much Dyson Sphere Program, but it feels to me that NASA et al are

It seems like this should have been titled "My views on Rust" as overall, the negatives don't really outweigh the positives. Good job for making the front page of HN, but I honestly struggle to know why. (Maybe you're fa

"...Any other use of it is a criminal act, which endangers the social order by violating the private security of every citizen," I hear this in a deep and booming Orwellian voice. What specific danger does this put anyone in? I ce

I observe the same behavior in react-simple-wysiwyg. It is possible to paste html content that "escapes" the editor. Meanwhile, there appears to be NO WAY to view the content in a text editor or even code editor like PHPstorm.

To clarify: I'm in Ubuntu and the problem seems to be more strongly pronounced when copying from Chrome. eg: There's a website that uses Modals to display profiles. When pasting from that profile copied from Chrome, summernote wil

Same goes for fish, which I just read in the excellent book "Why Fish Don't Exist" by Lulu Miller. An example being that a lungfish has more attributes similar to a cow than to a salmon.

Just ask them. This algo uses survey results for its input anyway, so why not just ask people directly? I find the notion of "predicting suicidal thoughts" to be overreaching and struggle to stay off of the slippery slope of think

This just seems like punishing the poor, very much like fines for speeding. "Rich" people get the freedom to do and say what they wish, but the poor must sit still and only convey favorable opinions.

We replaced a $15 land line with a $1,100 iphone and got multitudinous other benefits. Replacing human centric habitation space with human+robot centric spaces seems like it would have similar outsized benefits. For example, maybe dishes ne

I noticed this same behavior when sending a validation code link via SMS. Had to insert a "Verify Code" button landing page to prevent whatever link-sniffing was happening.

This statement is something of a revelation to me: "One quote from each side isn't an equal treatment of both sides, it's a biased treatment towards the side with less to say." I'd like to dive deeper into this, can

It seems like this and parent intriguing comments are both skirting(?) the importance of -context- in the debate over "money" vs "better world". People from all walks of life may choose one or the other based on their s

I confess I was thrown off by "autoimmunity" as I thought it would be a GOOD thing, my reasoning being that an "Autoimmune Disorder" is a bad thing. But I was wrong! I am happy to have learned this new thing today, which

Bummer: the Neutragena Ultra Sheer is the ONLY sunscreen some of us in our household will use regularly. The slather-on feels gross and other sprays have that dry-cracked feeling. I guess "too good to be true" applies to sunscreen

A 5/8" x 8' copper grounding rod is $14 at Home Depot; 3\4 x 10 is $33. I'm very confused on how the extra $100 would meaningfully affect the project in either time or BOM.
