it's been awhile since I played with Mindstorm but I remember that you could write the apps in C++ and then target the Mindstorm platform. presumably you'd be able to set this up in Linux but don't quote me on that.

you could probably write a Greasemonkey script to integrate other search results into one view (ie mix in Bing results into Google results ect)

Bears more than a passing similarity to Greasemonkey (which is awesome). Looks like it would let you do things in that gray area between stuff Greasemonkey can do and stuff you really don't want to start messing around with XUL to do. My

Hmm things will get interesting if the Android netbook distribution is closely compatible (or totally) with the phone version. If you can easily run apps built for phones on a netbook and vice versa then I'd totally whip out Eclipse and sta

@optimizing why not do something like a fresh fruit/vegetable cart that rolls through every morning at say 8am. The cart is actually backed/financed/supported by some bigger "rich folk" store (Shaws/Krugers/whatever) and is only available f

It seems like this should be a huge opportunity for someone to come in and optimize things. The "pay day advance" stuff seems particularly wasteful and generally awful. Even my credit card company won't charge me $50 to front me $300 in cas

Second this. Go to some fund raising events, shake the right hands, hand out some cards. Depending on how big your town is, you may be able to just contact a local lobbying group and ask who to talk to. As tin foil hat as it may sound - bri

If you are talking about using MySQL like memcache (so persistence isn't an issue) check out MYISAM MEMORY tables - http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/memory-storage-engine... Super fast but if the server dies so does all your data...

Being 21 I'd say the last point about 'Give the big middle finger to the good or bad opinion of others' is really solid advice. Every time I tell a parent/relative/family friend that I'm working for myself after I graduate I get this blank

More than the actual distro I'd say look into what kernel you are loading on there. Make sure you're running a nice tight kernel with any extra fluff turned off (or loading as modules). I can't find the papers off hand but there has been so

I'm sad to see the doors close on Wikia Search. I was an intern in the NYC office last summer. The project had a refreshingly open philosophy and was built using FOSS components. At least the index is still available at http://index.isc.or

I might be wrong, but wouldn't this not help the situation at airports where the AP resolves all DNS requests to a page that is like "pay for service!"? I was under the impression that in those configurations the AP intercepts all the DNS p
