Could be they're inherently political in one way, but that doesn't mean they have to be in other ways. They might just want to focus on their vision and let others focus on other (political-in-nature) visions.

Heck I'll raise that, and offer 20:1 odds to danielheath, I pay $400 if there's a civil war, he pays $20 if there's not.

I agree people should optimize for a good life. That's why spending four years living your good life at college shouldn't be the focus--because you'll have decades more, and it's more important to get 50+ years right tha

Eh, seems like expectations management to me, i.e. "don't blame us if you do something business-critical on the free tier and it goes wrong and you didn't pay for support to get you out of it".

I'm not sure what you mean by 'mistaken unpleasantness', but getting at the truth, however unpleasant, is a far higher and more widespread norm in the rationalist community.

I think if I had a theory that became popularized, I, too, would have legitimate concern that people were using that theory imprecisely—-ie incorrectly. Ive noticed that as ideas get popularized they get watered down or misapplied. Think A

That's nuts. This should be the top comment. And here I was just thinking the finding makes sense to the extent that AA is (probably) more involved than (most) psychotherapy. To extend my point, I think when people consider the benefit

Carl Sagan and his fans (me among them) understand your sense of awe. I do think it's important not to forget that when you lose religion. I also think it's important, as Sagan probably did, for the secular world--for humanity--to

It wasn't worth deconstructing their "logic". Rather, my implicit message was 'if you find yourself disagreeing with someone likely better than you at X, step back and assess the epistemic foundations of _your_ belief.&#

Like my recent job as a software tester at state govt. honestly, I swear I got more positive reviews when I didn’t do shit. There was a dearth of meaning since I knew we could all be more trained, systematic and use more auto, less manual.
