The strictest policy would prevent licensees from pre-loading shovelware onto new PCs to begin with. But that's an argument for another time.

Approximately 0% of Microsoft's target customer base will wipe and install Linux. People buying this thing want Windows. I would normally agree re: Marco (I've had to move on as he further embraces Apple linkbait), and there's no chance the

And Microsoft doesn't go out of the way any more than any other company at "hiding" that information from you. No, but the problem lies in the valley between the Surface's maximum capacity and the capacity available to users. Have you eve

The probability that he, or any other decent, civilized person, would make that comment is very, very low. Let's admit that parent, GP etc. are trying to pick on pg and move on.

Are serial killers who actually kill people really shocking to people? Yes, universally so. Because they kill people and murder is a Bad Thing. Social networks that index information produced willingly by members aren't in the same coun

It's true that some people (like me) only use Facebook for its usefulness as a social tool. In that case, just strip your account of any serious personal information.

The Facebook Graph Search article making the rounds mentions that (a) posts are not searchable at this time, and (b) FB is launching a suite of new privacy settings for Graph Search. Here's a link: http://www.wired.com/business/2013/01/the

Nothing good can come out of applying dumb algorithms (that is, any algorithm) to a sufficiently rich "social graph"; it will always lead to situations like that which are, at best, embarrassing, and at worst, dangerous, for whoever is in

Awesome! Thanks for adding instructions. You could do much worse than a hardcoded Four Tet tracklist, but I'm looking forward to listening to other stuff. :)

I can confirm this because (a) I too lived in a tiny studio in a super convenient area for a while and (b) after shopping around for a while I can confirm that $1.7k in Manhattan is definitely a steal.

How many mass murders has it taken to get to this point? How is that "drastic" or "very fast"? The same issue was addressed by the Brady Bill 18 years ago, so it's not like the issue hasn't been addressed before. That response's effective

Man, I don't want to make this point here, but comparing this to bullying is ridiculous. There's a difference between a child who is victimized while growing socially and emotionally and an adult man who allegedly broke the law knowingly.

I'm a big fan of Twyla Tharp's "The Creative Habit" for one reason: it completely does away with the whole mystification of "creativity" as some gift from a divine source. The plot is simple: creating stuff requires work. Figure out how you

Thanks! How do your watchdog instances monitor other hosts? Do they track usage/load via snmpd, or something else? Also, are they directly calling the EC2 API to launch or shut down hosts, or do you have an in-house deployment system?
