The lack of focus can be directly derived from the lack of interest, vision and love on what you're doing. When you're thinking about other things, it means what you're about to do is so much of a chore to you that you subconsciously procra

We use a project management tool: 1) We make "progress reports" by updating our own tasks assigned to us within the Sprint. The "boss/manager" just takes a peek at burn-down and other charts. For more details he just takes a peek at the lat

May I suggest you opt at creating a business canvas. Less verbose and more direct than a x-page doc file. Easier to on-board people with it as well. Once you have the canvas its going to be easier drilling down on the details. http://www.b

I guess the reason why your client chose ExtJS of Sencha instead of Backbone/Ember/Angular is due to the level of support they can get from Sencha, not because of any advantages or what not. Decisions like that don't come from developers, t

I'd really invest and help Vijay Kumar's team that made Autonomous Quadcopters http://www.ted.com/talks/vijay_kumar_robots_that_fly_and_coo... Given 5 years time and a few hundred million dollars, I would heavily support them. As a softwa

Any good developer would say they don't keep up with technologies: they just pick the ones that apply to their work. You don't need to study Hadoop 'just because', you study it because it would help you in your work dealing with 'BigData'.

+1 to this. Ruby itself is a great language, and that's what it is at the end of the day - it's just a language. What matters more is the community gather under it. As with any community, there are members that tend to be immature and arrog

Seeing as you're more experienced on the Windows stack (saw your C# posts), I'd suggest not dealing with NodeJS at all if your aim is to push out and maintain this project with less friction. If you're thinking it'll scale, it's much better

You have to take into consideration what your goals are and I'm guessing you want to create a sustainable business. Read up Lean Startup by Eric Ries and get your product out there quickly by using "things" to ease the process.

If you'll be using bootstrap, just a heads up: I found out from a ticket someone issued in Github that Bootstrap released new icons on 2.1.1. Going to try and incorporate that in the next push :)
