Yes, I was pleased to see our new Windows Server boxes still have regular Notepad and Explorer.

I was playing with the RTM release of Windows 10 which came with the "new Edge" browser (post-IE, pre-Chromium). It's a cool piece of software, very slick and minimal browser UI and not a hint of Copilot anywhere (since that

I knew of a Windows 95 host running virtualized in a corp environment until at least 2014 or so. It was surprisingly sturdy, I only had to remote into it once or twice when the old software it was running hung up on something. It was old me

Fun journey! It would be fascinating to see what's inside the dongle. I wonder if it's programmable or just a simple circuit.

I liked when floppy disks were actually floppy.

Perhaps no floppy drive has ever had so many patiently waiting for it to complete its work.

I almost did the same and still think about doing it! I also have an older edition of this book somewhere in a small stack of OpenBSD books I purchased when I was first learning the system. These days I never reference them. But they do mak

I manage a pf.conf with about 400 rules across a dozen VLANs, I find it intuitive and even enjoyable to work on. It feels kinda like editing source code - there are some host, network, and port declarations at the top, a section for NAT and

Yeah, passing argument "--display-driver wayland" fixed the issue for me.

Cheers, that worked! 4.6 is working great on Wayland. I created a new .desktop shortcut pointed to Godot_v4.6-stable_linux.x86_64 with argument "--display-driver wayland". Working flawlessly, thank you.

I kinda miss the original 3.5 model sometimes. Definitely not as smart as 4o but wow was it impressive when new. Apparently I have a very early ChatGPT account per the recent "wrapped" feature.

I don't want sycophantic AI, but I do have warmer memories of using 4o vs 5. It just felt a little more interesting and consistent to talk to.

Does anybody have tips for running Godot on KDE Plasma + Wayland? I tried 4.0 and an earlier 3.x release from the store but both hung shortly after startup. Maybe need some Wayland argument, will check.

I also would like to know a use case, I know about bloom filters but not what makes a rotating one special. It sounds interesting but I wish the article lead with the purpose of the filter.

Congrats ESA! Those first images are pretty striking. It's pretty cool to see the contrast between the blue high altitude clouds and the red hot surface, particularly just below the Sahara.

That's impressive, thanks for sharing! I miss my original SE, the size was perfect. And I felt iOS 15 and 16 were really solid updates.

I still find myself doing "dir /s *myfile*" on modern Windows sometimes because it's less unpredictable than searching Explorer.

I also recently switched to Debian + KDE after decades on Windows. I cloned my previous workflows in a few days and now have a very smoothly working desktop that I can still game on. High DPI and refresh are also working OK.

Anyone using the original iPhone SE or the second SE? I wonder how those are fairing on their final update(s).

Never used a HHKB (and would miss the modifier keys too), but after daily driving Topre switches for about 1.5 years, I can confirm they are fantastic switches and worth every penny.

I sometimes write directly in VSCode and use the preview mode there. I've also used Obsidian but it always felt kinda heavy and distracting for pure writing, though great for managing a large group of .mds in folders.

I think it's fascinating work even if LLMs aren't the ideal tool for this job right now. There were some experiments with embodied LLMs on the front page recently (e.g. basic robot body + task) and SOTA models struggled with that
