"Works for me" isn't the right response to this kind of complaint, because though it might work for you, the fact it is that it doesn't on many other people's computers--including mine. For example when upgrading to 11.04, hibernate broke

I'm going to guess that surprising users with a buggy, incomplete, and arguably poorly designed rewrite of the desktop experience they've been using for years is the fiasco he's talking about. And yes, only geeks keep up with Ubuntu news--e

Not to mention the need to set up the actual page layout, markup, and related code... this is a PHP app so it's not that easy. Since I'm the only developer/everything else guy, my time has to be split between customer support, development

Sometimes I feel like the only person who doesn't think that data portability is a right. After all, when you willingly hand over your data to a service, say Facebook, you do so with the assumption that you've read their terms and conditio

Maybe true, but as a web developer I can't in good conscience install an OS for a user that won't upgrade to FF4 for more than 6 months. That's the PPA/milestone release system's blessing and curse: easy to install software, hard to get th

Agreed, and the same thing happened, I believe, in Gnome 3. They did usability testing, but only AFTER the features were essentially frozen. Instead of using users as a guide for what to develop, they used them as a confirmation that what

If almost 50% of the users managed to crash the GUI with routine tasks in the span of a single hour , that's a sure sign that it isn't ready for prime-time yet, regardless of what anybody's opinions on features or functionality are. I pers

Sounds kind of pointless... the kind of people who can spent at least $120 on an e-reader (and by extension the $8-$15 it costs per book that isn't even a touchable/sharable thing) are probably the kinds of people who can afford another $25

What I'm saying is that "non-LTS" shouldn't be code for "bug-ridden and feature-incomplete," just because it isn't supported for as long. They deserve the same attention to stability that LTS releases get. I'm not against all change, only

Actually I'd be surprised if they did a last-minute switch back to Gnome Classic for 11.04 given Shuttleworth's penchant for decision by fiat and history of using non-LTS releases as nothing more than extended betas/UI playgrounds. (See Pul

This is a great tool, I've been using it for a long time. Only downside is that on Ubuntu Server certain graphics libraries aren't in the PPA so you have to download a static binary instead of using apt-get. But it's a minor quibble for a

No- I worked for a high-traffic .NET based company in LA that was doing great. Myspace just had a crappy product that couldn't keep up with the Facebook steamroller. I think it's as simple as that.

This is a great idea, and the books look beautiful. I'd suggest making the site title a horizontal header and lining up the books under that, instead of having two columns. But then again I'm not a designer either. Good luck!

I worked at Xerox when they did their rebranding. At a big company meeting I saw it and said, "seriously?" Not only is it bland and generic, but my eyes keep thinking that the sphere is "off" somehow. Something about how they drew the lin
