Seems like a nice idea, but I get a "Data was not valid JSON." error when drag-dropping any font on FF6 Ubuntu.

I could never understand the appeal of Flickr. I've always found the UI to be extremely confusing and close to unusable. Way back in the day I used to post my travel photos there, mainly because back then there weren't that many alternati

I like PHP because it's got a C-like syntax, which is a personal preference of mine. I also like it because it exposes the nuts-and-bolts of web development without any fuss, unlike, say, ASP.NET (though last I touched that was 3 years ago

Not to sound too cynical, but if companies like MS, Apple, IBM, Google, etc. have spent the last 20 years amassing billion-dollar patent war-chests and are still giving in to patent trolls, and they haven't managed to get the system changed

Agreed. I think it was Boehner who compared the US debt situation to a household. These comparisons are like comparing a 747 to a Hotwheels car, and not just useless in most cases but damaging in the sense they cloud the more complex bigg

A perennial classic. While I would say that Windows usability has improved significantly since 2004 (when the mail was written) it's shocking see how the big kanuna's own company became too mired in politics and bureaucracy for even a fire

Since I'm getting downvoted anyway, may I request that we change the name of the site to Airbnb News, and does anybody know what EJ had for breakfast today? That might be interesting to post.

Can we please stop posting this stuff? I get it, the woman had a tragic experience, and Airbnb is getting blamed. I still think this is getting wildly overblown--the number of rehashed posts on this topic here is like watching CNN. I don

I'm not an expert in this but I think the issue is one of tradeoffs. I think I remember reading (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that broadly generalized, microkernels have better security at the expense of performance, vice versa for mac

I tried out Ubuntu One when it had just started, and was unimpressed. There were lots of bugs and it didn't seem feature complete. I went back to Dropbox. Unfortunately I think Canonical has garnered a bit of a reputation for pushing alph

I love reading stuff like this. As a kind-of sysadmin by need rather than by choice, I'm often confused and intimidated by systems that other sysadmins seem to be born knowing about. It's always refreshing to read a straightforward explan

Nice idea, but the problem for me would be the screen. I used to spend hours staring at my textbook back in the day. Hours spent staring at a backlit screen like a laptop would give me a headache (and does today, when I spend hours progra

Your view is exactly the kind of fear I'm referring to. Re. Tylenol, 7 people died in an isolated area, and the response was national legislation and money and materials spent tamper-proofing every drug made since then. People are still sc
