I spent $400 on a Crucial M4 512. The first one failed--no joke--an hour into use. After a reboot the system wouldn't POST, couldn't even get into the BIOS setup. I RMA'd it to Amazon, got a replacement that seemed to be working fine, un

This is one of the last things I figured out when I was learning CSS, but it's arguably one of the most important. Once you realize that it exists, all of a sudden any new CSS you write will shrink and you'll understand all those weird qui

In the ebook's HTML, you can specify the text-align CSS attribute. If not specified, I believe the Kindle defaults to justify, and the Nook defaults to left-align. So books you read on the Kindle that are left-aligned (ragged right) proba

Very cool if true, but didn't they recently announce they're stopping new development on TB? And that bug was opened in 2010 and isn't assigned to anyone.

I guess it depends on how far that work has come--if what they have after a year is as good or better than webOS then OK, but if not, webOS worked pretty well for all its rough edges. I guess it pains me for two reasons--I'm a big webOS fan

Isn't this basically what webOS was? Now that it's OSS, why not piggy back off what they've already done?

To be fair, the title of the post does say "startup" which implies the goal is to make money, and the poster asks for advice on revenue streams. If he had said, "Check out my weekend project, enjoy!" that's one thing, but calling the eleve

I think gap years are an excellent idea. If you can afford to travel for part of it, do so. I feel that I've grown the most as a person from all of the travel I've done. Your perspective changes when you see how other people live and that

That's pretty rich, maybe they should ban AT&T as a security threat for spying on Americans ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_641A ) or hell, why not the NSA too ( http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/03/ff_nsadatacenter/ )

I'm not knocking the color scheme, I think black with red highlights can look pretty slick myself. It's just the overall feeling I get... it just looks so sharp-edged and industrial. To me that's the opposite of aesthetic. On the other h

I can't believe I'm reading an article touting the design smarts of the Thinkpad designers... honestly I've always thought that the standard black Thinkpads were unspeakably ugly. And I'm not even a design snob. Usable yes, but aesthetic?

To some extent this is a problem with Diablo 3 and Battle.net in general too. If you (like I did) travel to Europe, download/play D3 on the EU servers, then come back home to the US, you'll find that your character is forever trapped in th

Yes, but many IP's--residential in particular--are rotated frequently. That's why grandmas and dead people got sued by the media cartels. Actually I think this fact is an even better justification for pirating stuff. Anyone, anywhere can

Those are all nice, but as a long-time PHP dev, the only way to make PHP truly better is to do a Python-style hard version bump. Rip off the band-aid, so to speak. Create an entirely new, consistent, object- or namespace-oriented standard

Based solely on what's in this article (perhaps reality is different), this reinforces my inkling that people get truly rich from mostly just two things: who you know, and marketing. Market yourself (or your product) well and know the righ
