Good, freenode is dead. Amen. I'm sure it doesn't help that the current owner of freenode is notoriously litigious.

There's a bunch of signed (and dedicated sign language) programming on FreeView, but usually late at night. It's worth looking them up on iPlayer/4oD etc and watching them if you're not around at the right times. They&#x

I fully believe that Element want Matrix to be decentralised and diverse, but I don't think it's actually true. Despite years of deployment, 90%[1] of the work is still done by paid Element employees rather than the community. Cou

It would probably be risky to drag the only other foss-focussed network into the legal battle. Andrew Lee has shown that he is litigious, so why expose another organisation to that risk?

thankfully, IRC is an open protocol, so for most people making such a change could be as simple as mechanically replacing "chat.freenode.net" with "irc.libera.chat" in their config.

I think this is mostly throwing out chaff for PR purposes: 1) They're not giving the money back, or better and less conflict-of-interesty, giving it to a neutral pro-foss org like FSFE 2) They continue to intimately support freenode 3)
