I don't think that's quite how it worked. The colour was created by different phosphors on the inside of the screen, there was nothing different about the electron beams. The number and pitch, the resolution, of these different ph

The details here about the funding situation - in particular terminating a raft of projects and a licensing change specifically to sell AGPL exemptions - doesn't paint a rosy picture. It's weird to see "Needless to say, this

I think you misunderstand. The comment you reply to I think acknowledges that there are problems with nuclear project management - they're saying that with that in mind, let's figure out how to do it better, to make nuclear projec

There is a lot of utility in 1 to 1 links, but you don't need encryption to do that, while adding it does encourage it at the expense of other modes. As for commercial activity, the whole point of the amateur spectrum is specifically t

The pros have to bid at auction to tie up bandwidth with encrypted comms that cannot benefit or be used by others. If people want encryption, they are welcome to use the ISM bands where it is allowed, or get licenses for the commercial area

You talk about retrojustification, but in many parts of the world this has long been written into law, for example in the UK's Wireless Telegraphy act: 1(1) The Licensee shall ensure that the Radio Equipment is only used: a) for the pu

My concern is that the moment you implement encryption you've opened a race to the bottom in people abusing the license for purposes outside the license. Even if you know who it is, you don't know what they're doing. The temp

Why? Amateur radio is supposed to be an open spectrum for people to communicate and experiment on, not provide services on. If you need to privately communicate, use the ISM bands, don't consume the amateur experimentation bands.

What a silly mistake for short term domestic gain. The ruling party (the Torys) in England are haemorrhaging support and seats because they've overseen a disastrous decade of mismanagement. It's well understood in the UK that this

Yes, you cannot use your ham/amateur radio license for that. Amateur radio is supposed to be firmly in the realm of community building to improve the appreciation of the radio spectrum, and to encourage amateurs to explore, experiment,

Sadly, I think Matrix's bridge onto Libera might soon be curtailed - they've not been good neighbors for some time and it's eroding the usability of IRC for IRC natives. https://libera.chat/news/matrix-ir
