All these architectural discussions seem to assume a kind of black box business system where the microservices vs monolith discussion is an internal one, conducted by and for techies, and limited to a rigid view of the business requirements

From a global perspective (I don't live in the USA), this sort of thing keeps the world somewhat balanced. Clearly the US healthcare system is all screwed up. Its astonishing that the richest country in the world can't provide bas

Most of the world seems happy to click through to read a Facebook notification, so I don't know why someone who gets paid to do it would not click through to see an invoice. The main problem with clicking through is normally clunky a

That sounds very credible. On a bus in Cambodia, I watched a man fixing potholes in the road. He had nothing but a spade, and each time a vehicle came past he leapt out if it's way, clinging to a dirt bank. When I got home after that h

I agree. As a 50+ programmer/CTO I freely admit I'm nothing like as quick as I used to be at pure coding. I marvel at what some of the youngsters at work can do. I took a good long time out in management but even so, age catches u

Ah the beauty of the corporation. Make money while the sun shines, then when the downturn comes, wind up the company and move on to the next big idea. Preferably something counter cyclical to the housing market.

Nice concept! A missing area is identity management. Most likely this should be separated from your system (e.g. don't have a table somewhere with username, password in it). In consumer facing systems, OpenID Connect (better) as practi

A good philosophy for businesses that deliberately take on risk to maximise reward, and where the worst case outcome of "breaking things" is insolvency and loss of jobs and investor's money.

We do recruitment software, and one of the features that just never seems to take life is asking managers why they have rejected a candidate - even though that would be extremely useful for fine tuning the process. It seems people just don&

Once I learned I had Atrial Fibrillation (AF) I wrote an app that pulls my heart rate data from a normal consumer Polar chestband, then pushes it to a server where I can see it on Grafana. It was incredibly useful, and helped me learn what
