Interesting. Can you clarify? It’s a fork of TrueCrypt, which was reviewed by an academic cryptographer (Matthew D. Green) a decade ago.

I’m not an expert, but would’t a VPN (commercial or to a server with known exit IP) prevent such attacks? It will kick out the MITM. Also I wonder if the lock down mode could block it.

If you are forced to unlock the phone, then whatever is in the phone is accessible! If you have laptop, you can encrypt it with veracrypt that gives you plausible deniability. Unfortunately it’s not available in LUKS or bit locker. It’s sim

This would not work well, because you can’t do it in a secret manner. Overuse of the rubber hose cryptography will become known, and there will be public backlash.

I also have this question, on Linux. You can use a VM, but that’s a pain.

Borg 2 is usable in my experience. It’s a breaking change. So tgr developer seems to be mulling over whether to release what is available or add in more breaking changes at this point.

How does it compare with Restic, which is very similar, and written in GO? One feature that I wished these tools would have provided is support for public key encryption. The secret key then need not be exposed.

Veeam does both file and full system backups. Kopia is meant to do only file backups. Veeam is an enterprise solution, and popular among sysadmins.

Similar software is used in some products. For example, synology DSM has a package called download station. Who knows if it’s based on some obscure .deb (or scripts such as youtube-dl). It could give rise to a supply chain attack.
