Also Instant is a database (it has queries and so forth, more appropriate for bigger data). I would put Jazz at the document sync side of the spectrum: https://x.com/aboodman/status/1843042582672355834

I don't think you're on the right forum if this is your response to somebody launching something new and technically interesting.

Jazz is decentralized. There is no central server. See: https://x.com/aboodman/status/1843045692736204802

Does it store data persistently anywhere (on servers?). If so where?

Very excited to see this. I think this is currently the most promising of the fully-decentralized local-first systems I've seen.

Hi Joseph, There is a lot of debate about this in the community. People like pvh, adam wiggins, and johannes have all said they consider Replicache and Zero part of the local-first movement [1] and that they would be sad if we and other thi

I mean that basically in an implementation of indexes. Move the on-the-fly sorts to behind a command, then change the insert/delete code to maintain them, and voila - indexes.

Shipping doesn't use gasoline, it uses bunker fuel, which is currently about $700/ton. There are 4k gallons in a ton of such fuel, so approximately 18c/gallon. So the shipping cost in fuel should be about $20, which amusingly

I typically let Chrome suggest one, but that menu item wasn't available here (because I was not inside Chrome, obviously). These restrictions do not add security in practice. People just add `!` or `1` as necessary to make the thing sh

Please stop doing this: https://i.imgur.com/2WeVGxK.png It's so frustrating. Early in your product lifecycle it should be painfully easy to get started and you shouldn't be worrying about this kind of security.

Not sure in the case of Croquet, but you can implement this very well with https://reflect.net (my company). Server authority is a core piece of what it provides, and as a bonus you don't need a special runtime – it runs in

Speaking as a library developer, Firefox is expensive for us to support in https://replicache.dev and https://reflect.net due to lots of long-open bugs, particularly in the storage system. Firefox also generally has

It's true that a CRDT is often not the right thing for a classic client/server application. But this doesn't mean we should just give up on ux and use locking. There are approaches to multiplayer that are client/server n

I didn't mean to say that Reflect can do _anything_. We do think it's a general model that ends up working well for very many things in practice.

I think it sounds really cool. I love the p2p side of local-first. Lot to figure out to make it practical, but very glad people are working on that.

FWIW, I don't think this is deterministic lockstep for the key reason that Reflect is not deterministic: https://i.imgur.com/q9FnN4R.png The whole idea of DL as I understand it is to take advantage of determinism to re

It seems really interesting. The key thing to understand is that there are deep architectural choices made in each of these systems that really influence what you can do. There is "mechanical sympathy" with certain kinds of applic

I like multiplayer because it connotes games and games have worked so hard at this and done so well. Our goal is to be as good as games. But I get your argument too. Naming is hard.

Depends what you mean by very large. Reflect can store up to about 50MB/room. For a PNG, that's "fairly large" I guess. We plan to increase this limit in the future. You'd have to split up the image into chunks of a
