Lovely idea. I bought one for my home, but the email confirm I received had an image that looked much different than the one that I customized. The text was much bigger and overlapped, even though I had customized it to not be like that.

What, no. The problem is that the typical arrangement is that employees must either buy their options (which have been very expensive at Dropbox for past 5 years at least, and thus out of reach and highly risky for most), or forfeit them so

Nit, but an interesting subtle one: bitcoin-core can double the amount of bitcoin overnight. They can commit new code which does that and shows up in the next client. But , that would presumably be noticed: either in the oss repo, or in

There are multiple existence proofs that you are wrong: Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, etc.

The transaction fee for Bitcoin Cash is like ten cents. High transaction fees have nothing to do with crypto currencies fundamentally.

Darn, I wish you'd seen it too :). Sounds like you came to similar conclusion I did -- using C++ templates to stamp out v8::FunctionTemplate and ObjectTemplate instances. I was pretty happy about how Gin turned out and always thought i

Hey Kenton, should've guessed you were behind this. Lovely design, great work. I'd be curious to learn more about the implementation (did you lift the existing SW implementation from blink somehow, or reimplement it)?

I think the argument could be even more compelling without the es6-isms: function Header(props) { return <h1>{props.text}</h1>; } function Main() { return <Header text={new Date()}/>; } Reac

Super interesting. A related problem I think about frequently is this: how do users know/trust the client software they are running works as they expect? I wonder if there is some way to use SGX to enhance trust in the client side too.

Good point. The cold storage procedure is also impressive, but not as impressive as full insurance.

All crypto on Coinbase is insured, according to: https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/166237... This counts for a lot IMO. Of course there are still questions of whether and how the insurance

All currencies have that trait. USD has a value that is famously propped up because of its ubiquitous utility. Everyone wants/needs dollars (to trade w/ US, to pay US taxes, to use as a reserve currency, etc). This demand increase

Currencies have network effects - everyone who will transact in a specific currency increase the value of that currency for everyone else. So one reason BTC is worth more (speaking of entire market cap here) than, say, LTC, is because it is

Pedantically yes, but practically no. It's hard to impossible for ISPs to make use of that position. Much harder than, say, Visa.

The utility is a way to send value ~instantly, ~anonymously, relatively inexpensively, and irrevocably from one side of Earth to the other, without any intermediaries. That hasn't existed before.

One problem with this is that if extensions need to be sandboxed from the user, the browser, and each other. Therefore you'r proposing running a process for each part of the browser.

Is there an architectural diagram or a protocol flow somewhere? I would love to understand the lifecycle of a listing. In particular, I'm curious if in effect every client has to find, download, validate, and index every listing. And h

Right. I guess as an engineer, I would be afraid to use something for data storage that is intended more as ephemeral state. But I suppose if you back it up you can always go back.

Why do you have a profile w/ 1600 tabs in it. If whatever it is is so important, aren't you afraid to lose it? I'd be terrified that one time Firefox just wouldn't shut down clean.

If it works, it's going to drive the price of storage to near cost. So you'd use it because it will be dramatically cheaper than the alternatives.
