Re. learning resources, I'm just at the beginner level in clojure, but a subscription to https://purelyfunctional.tv/ was very good to get a start, as well as the book "getting clojure".

In my experience a combination of the rust book followed by the too many linked lists book was enough to give a pretty good idea of Rc, RefCell etc and how they can be used.

Has anyone used elixir for building command line tools? It seems like this would be very useful for distributing them.

I actually used a raspberry Pi for a while as a Plex server but it's underpowered for transcoding. I dont use that laptop at all these days so I put it to use there.

At least for Java / Scala etc intellij works as it would normally. You just need to point to the graalvm JDK instead of your usual JDK.

Its not quite low end but I use a T480 with ubuntu as a home server for plex etc. I set it up to boot from the ACPI signal and run with lid closed so it boots from the wall switch.

I interviewed with Helpshift last year and it was a good experience, they did have a take home task but it was very interesting and kind of fun to implement. The onsite interviews ranged from solving real world problems to optimising data s

Ctrl-B also goes to definition (at least on Linux) if you don't want to leave the keyboard. On definition Ctrl-B lists all usages of the term under caret.

Intellij IDEA and Pycharm. The autocomplete, search for symbols, quick documentation and especially refactoring have saved me well over 100 hours, especially at work with larger projects.

Are they statically linked by default now? Last I looked (a couple of months ago) the executable produced linked dynamically but there was a flag to link statically.

Same, I bought a herman miller chair new about 6 years ago, there is no used chair that I could find in India. But even when bought new, something that gets used so much everyday is worth the price.

Ocaml is really good with nice tooling like merlin. Compiles to native as well. There's reasonml for people who favour js syntax but I have come to like ocaml syntax.
