Two thoughts: I agree most of the compatibility concerns mentioned are moot, but I guess it will cause small amounts of one minor ~forward-compatibility problem: people working on Fedora hardcode new paths that won't work on other dist

I imagine the answer's ~yes from the perspective of something you build and deploy (and I agree it's relevant to the article--but I'll caveat that I read xamuel to be asking the question very broadly). Relying on a post-build

I guess there's a hybrid model where you're able to select exactly what you're depending on and pull it in dynamically at build/package time. I've thought a little about, for example, building something that could s

Sure. I don't recall seeing one, but the near-inevitability of this is why I didn't assert they don't exist. Rarity speaks to how poorly suited the material is for building durable fences and the ~irrelevance of the cost of p

FWIW, I tend to find that it doesn't have to be a full brain idle. Some active component seems to be helpful, but I think it needs to be easy to pause and that there's a sweet spot on the amount of engagement. Reading actual books

I don't think it's mostly good or mostly bad in the abstract. DRYing code repeated for the same reason is mostly good. DRYing code coincidentally repeated for different reasons will sow code churn or inadvertent behavior shifts.
