Nix throws sparks, but I'm still cautious about who I recommend it to and how. I understand why there's consternation about usability (and a steady stream of requests focused on helping novices get it up and running), but I'm

A couple weeks ago I was trying to decide whether to use a project that appears to be unmaintained these days. I noticed a sad game being played in the issue comments, where existing users of the project keep wishing aloud for someone to fo

I think there's some accidental synecdoche here. At least for those of us endowed with the gift/curse of forming memories as life rushes by, they can appear to be composed of details our senses perceived around us enmeshed with de

I don't think it's so much comprehension that suffers. I comprehend, but... I have no strong concept of the sensory world of the text. I have a very, very vague impression of what a character looks like. I'm prone to forget e

Cool. Thanks. Was wondering if it was something intrinsic to the logging system. I find Console a little easier to explore in, but the log command much better for most things beyond that. I suppose it might be ripe for wrapping with a TUI t

Curious if using `log stream` with predicates is better, from a performance perspective at least?

Thanks for pointing to this. I missed it yesterday. A little disappointed in Reuters for the handling of this. I wish news outlets were treating direct reporting of single-study-preprint (i.e., just credulously reporting the preprint's

Thanks for providing a link. For anyone else who comes along, the supporting statement isn't very prominent; you can find it in: "If you test negative" > "You could still have a current infection." > 2nd sub-b

Not that I have any knowledge of whether anyone is running PCR tests on valid random population samples, but I suspect the concern is that this isn't happening, and that any followup study you could do on these positives will have bias

Is this actually a shellcheck error? It just evaluates to the integer number of arguments in $@, so I doubt it is (and I doubt it matters whether it's quoted? unless there's a bash back-compat issue here?)

I got the option to opt into this "feature" a few (4? 5?) days ago. I've been intending to give feedback, but haven't had time, yet, to take screenshots and marshal my thoughts. I don't want to over-perform it, but

I think sradman means that Nix enables IHP to guarantee the presence of postgres, rather than relying on the user to ensure pre-requisites get installed. Edit: Gah. :)

Right (likewise commenting on your note, and not on this product)--we need development down multiple tracks... maybe: 1. data/info-skepticism 2. data/info-literacy 3. soundly interpreting data/information 4. data/info-in

According to the site ( https://blog.conifer.rhizome.org/2020/06/11/webrecorder-coni... ), webrecorder is becoming Conifer, so I'm guessing they've renamed the project but not transferred it yet.
