A couple weeks ago I was trying to decide whether to use a project that appears to be unmaintained these days.
I noticed a sad game being played in the issue comments, where existing users of the project keep wishing aloud for someone to fork, fix, and maintain the project.
It reminded me that I occasionally see an HN thread where someone looking for more experience posts an Ask HN that boils down to something like "How do I get experience and build my portfolio if I don't have any good ideas?"
I went looking to see if anyone was working on collecting projects that could use some help and found Adoptoposs. It doesn't yet have the feature I was actually looking for yet (somewhere I could submit a project that may need a fork-and-replace), but I think it could be a better answer (to "the experience/portfolio question") for the OSS ecosystem than common defaults like building a calculator or to-do list or note-taking app?
