Ah, thank you for the sourcing. I shall read them but I was wondering if you have a response to this critical analysis, "Seattle — A Cautionary Tale for Supply-Side Housing Advocates."[1] It notes how Seattle is often cited by der

Actually your source says "A lack of construction workers is a legacy of the 2008 recession, when many people left the industry as development froze." I.e. a meltdown of the unregulated market was a major factor in the shortage

Do you have sources for these claims? I feel this narrative is often repeated on HN and it becomes kind of an echo chamber. Then I read in the SF Chronicle that there’s permitted and approved projects that developers are not moving forward

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe PayPal micropayments requires the customer to have a PayPal account linked to their bank account (ACH). So, considerably less convenient than using a card.

You could say that about a lot of companies. Stripe is far from a dominant “titan” in the processing industry which is something like $2T in global volume. As in Trillion.

False. Regulated e-commerce card-not-present debit interchange (i.e. online transactions) is 0.05% + $0.22.[1] Kind of mind blowing, right? [1] https://usa.visa.com/dam/VCOM/global/support-legal/documents

Request for startup: If you want to disrupt payments, do a gateway that captures U.S. major debit transactions and handles them at 0.1% + $.30 (still a healthy margin) and redirects the rest to a higher-fee processor. Little known fact: Maj

I appreciate your work on making HN a welcoming, supportive community. You’ve given a great deal of thoughtful attention to the feelings of folks who may be contributing from different cultural contexts, which is admirable. My argument is w

You make fair points but at the same time are avoiding the larger question. What are the criteria guiding the decision? You've mentioned only one, the intent of the poster -- or more specifically the most charitably possible intent.

To follow your logic, if someone posted an article with the word “negro” in the title, without other racist content, would you let it stand unedited because maybe they’re from one of the cultures where that word carries no mal-intent? You m

Agreed about the JC comment but as for the title, sexist biases in other cultures shouldn’t be accepted here just because the sexism is well-intentioned, which it often is. Likely the young woman was gender referenced to emphasize the “surp

Thank you, this is pretty, but it is also non-standard UI so it's not what I mean by a "native looking" app. I understand Flutter has some native-looking widgets so I'm curious how they work out in practice.
